Cor Coire

The Cor Coire was a mythical treasure of the Aernigh, belonging to one of their chieftains. It was a great cauldron, from which nothing could be drawn. In most legends, this meant that any drink poured into the cauldron would never run out, and that bread or meat could be multiplied indefinitely.   Four different Aernigh clans are said to have commanded the Cor Coire, and there are four different legends telling how the Orrish acquired and corrupted it.   The best known legend says the Cor Coire belonged to the Glastins, the horned folk who lived in the woods, and they used it so their broth was everlasting (in some myths, they used it to brew Khabarese tea). In this myth, Ullagh the Walker won it from the King of the Glastins in a game of riddles. There are many tellings of this story, and hundreds of different riddles said to have gone between them.   The next legend grants the Cor Coire to the Revali, or river folk, who were conquered by King Baarach, said to be the forefather of Clan Beth in Revellia. When King Baarach's son, Prince Darrog, grew ill in his twentieth winter, his wife the Princess Aede sought out a Revali witch in the Fiirwood, who told her to place a drop of the prince's blood in the Cor Coire. It instantly filled up with bubbling blood and sank into the earth, taking Prince Darrog and Princess Aede with it.   A third legend tells how one of the Aethirs, ancestors of Clan Ethel, stole the Cor Coire from a Faolaxi sorcerer who lived beneath a great barrow. The king used the Cor Coire to multiply his gold and become the wealthiest man in the Peninsula, but eventually the cauldron grew so heavy, it shattered the ground beneath it and fell into the sea, where it was devoured by the Monsters.   The fourth legend tells how a young hero won the Cor Coire from the Bura, who dwelt with the werewolves in the southern Fiirwood. The hero came upon a wounded wolf and helped it recover, whereupon it revealed itself as one of the great princes of the Bura. The young hero was charged with seven more great tasks to fulfill. When he finally finished his tasks, he was granted the cauldron and the hand of a Bura princess. He placed their firstborn son into the Cor Coire, hoping it would make him immortal, but instead the cauldron shattered.
