Vania
Vania used to be the tavern maid of the Golden Sun Inn of Schwarzstein. Her husband Johann recently passed away, and she had been planning for a while to leave her hometown together with her three children and mother-in-law. They want to travel to the captial, Minrathous, where they hope to be safe from the darkspawn threat.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Overall Vania is in a good physical condition. She is strong, something she needed to be while working in the tavern, and agile, but not a fighter.
Apparel & Accessories
Vania wears a plain, light-brown dress and simple leather shoes. She dresses in a modest manner, and while her clothing is simple in style and material she does keep it neat. There are a few stains here and there though that are resistant to all cleaning attempts.

Personal history
She is the only surviving daughter of Proconsul Calvis of Schwarzstein. Despite her father being the descendant of a noble Tevinter family, she never saw herself as being a part of that society. She is humble and throughout her life has worked hard to provide for her family, not scared to get her hands dirty.
Recently her husband Johann, a soldier for the Imperium but of Ander origin just like her, passed away from the taint. According to her he returned home one day, sick with the taint. She and his mother did everything they could, tried unconventional cures and remedies to save is life, but it was in vain in the end and he passed away.

This was the story she told everyone at least. In fact, Johann did get better with the treatment of her and his mother, stabilized mentally and physically, although they couldn't manage to heal him entirely. The villagers of Schwarzstein in the meantime spread the rumors that the whole family was slowly turning into ghouls, not believing that Johann's sickness could truly be cured. Therefore the family faked Johann's death and decided to hide him in the mines until they would get the chance to travel to Minrathous with the Desert Crows. They hoped to find the help in the captial that they needed to cure Johann. Vania, Johann's mother Hulda, as well as Vania's children were all involved in covering up his fate and their plans, terrified of the consequences they might face if the villagers found out that they had been hiding an alleged ghoul amongst them for weeks.
Eventually, after a few days of travel through the desert, their secret was eventually exposed. Yana and Lukas were caught by the party in "There is only one thing worse than a ghoul" as they repeatedly left and returned to the Caravan camp at night over the course of several days, to bring food to their father who was hiding near the camp. The family had aroused their suspicion beforehand, but eventually in "Chaos and Decisions" they could finally contront them and Johann himself.
Vania is heartbroken about Johann's death, still convinced that her mother-in-law had been so close to finding a cure - which would have been a truly amazing achievement and could have saved hundreds and thousands of lives across the entirety of the Imperium. Yet she now has to mourn her husband who died a soldier's death, and plan ahead to building a new future for her family in Minrathous.
She is thankful for the party's help, admits that she was initially suspicious of them though.

They have known each other since their childhood and led a very happy marriage. Both loved their kids dearly. Vania was proud of her husband's work and he admired her strength and determination. Johann's illness and death were devastating to both of them.

Faking Johann's death and working on a cure for the taint was originally Vania's and Hulda's idea; but he reluctantly agreed to the plan, in the desperate hope of having more time to spend with his family.
Wealth & Financial state
She doesn't have a lot left to her name, and she never had. Most of the family's funds were spent on trying to find a cure for her husband, the rest was used up almost completely to pay the caravan that's supposed to take her and her family away from Schwarzstein. The family still owns a small house in the town, but now that they left it's not sure what will become of it.
