Architecture

Architectural magic is a speciality that combines locational magic (part of Astronomy), Materia, and various rites and rituals to anchor magic into a building or enhance a building's natural magical inclinations. It's a relatively rare but much needed specialtiy, and architectural magic specialists often work closely with warding and protective magic specialists.

Education

Most commonly educated at Schola with a lengthy apprenticeship following.

Applications

  • Embedding magical effects in a particular building.
  • Supporting domestic household activities (cleaning, hygiene)
  • Enhancing or amplifying warding or protective magic.
  • "Tuning" a building or room for particular kinds of magical work (such as working ritual rooms)

Examples

Read an example from Eclipse
“Well, that too. But the pipes in the curtain wall, the houses, they’re lined with something that acts much like the silphium charm.” Isembard blinked at her, and Thesan added, “Avoiding babies.”   He was sure he wasn’t hiding anything in his expression, but he hesitated to let his sense catch up with his thoughts. “That feels - manipulative, honestly.”   “A lot of architectural magics are, I gather. That’s not my field, I’ve only read portions of it. And of course Schola’s not like anywhere else, even the other four schools.”   Eclipse, chapter 8
