Oswald Glowsky Kingfinch- Ghostcrane
Oswald was a Dolomedes Chieftain, the son of Aethelflaed, Tribal Chieftess of the Ghostcrane Clan and Ori, the leader of the Agrioganaros. He marries the Larchwood noblewoman Sigrid Kingfinch, with whom he has two children, Herleva and Niels.
He is an initial antagonist in The Hallow Maiden, appearing as Sigrid's ill-intended husband with a grudge against her family. He frequently sabotages not just Ashur, but also Mother Gisla, who is the leader of his Compound. Due to his romantic relationship with Sigrid's brother Arnulf, it is initially believed that Oswald is using both of them to get at their mother Harlow, the Earlen of Deornet.
Oswald, who was declared XF when he came of age, was longing for a life with the Agrioganaros. He idolized his father Ori and wanted to follow in his footsteps. However, the hunting grounds dried up following some upgrades to Blaec Gheal's irrigation, and in exchange for peace Ositha Kingfinch offered for them to settle in Ceowan. This went badly, because the Dolomedes were not good farmers, resorting to poaching in the forest and angering Old Nick. Oswald was given up as a peace-bride to the Earlen of Deornet's heir, Sigrid, whom he married when he was 19.
Prior to his marriage to Sigrid, Oswald made a vow with his best friend and Ambactos, Asche, to destroy the Kingfinch clan. At the time, the Larchwood Kingfinch Family consisted of two generations of adults with little political or war experience, and so while the oath was made in earnest, it was also made in haste. He would come to learn on his wedding night, that Old Nick would immediately let his Double Walkers and Dolcaren allies feast on all of Deornet Valley if his descendants ever fell out of power.
Oswald makes a Blood Bet with Sigrid when she becomes fatally ill in hopes to circumvent this fate, but he loses the bet when Sigrid manages to come back from the dead as Henbane. He is mortally wounded after the the valley is flooded, but passes in peace knowing that Sigrid, as Old Nick's direct descendant, will look after their children and thus the future of the valley.
