Asche is a Dolomedes warrior and Oswald ‘s closest retainer. They profess an undying loyalty to Oswald, but after he breaks an oath, they have a Double Walker built of him.
Bent on revenge for what the Gannwyll Gwydd did to their tribe, they vow to dismantle the Wisterwood Family starting with Harlow Wisterwood and her children. However, they struggle with guilt when Oswandar decides to flood the town and makes a blood oath with Henbane . They also begin to realise the ideal Oswald is not what they thought he would be. Seeing Ashur’s determination and loyalty to the double walker reminds Asche of the trust they once placed in Oswald. With the sense that Oswald’s days are numbered, they vow to protect his daughter Herleva in his stead.
They eventually find common ground with Henbane, an Aliruna comprised of Ashur and Oswald's wife Sigrid. In The Hallow Maiden, they are last seen making attempts to revive Oswandar with Henbane at their side.

Personal history
Asche's birth mother was a lower ranking member of the Ghostcranes, a large Dolomedes clan who inhabited Deornet and Hedgecomb. Amid unexpected complications, the Cult of Modron was called to help deliver Asche and a stillborn twin boy, with the mother dying of sepsis hours after their birth. These Kannerenoz midwives castrated Asche at birth due to the omen. Believing the ominous birth and survival of Asche to be important to their clan's future, Aethelflaed had an adoption for Asche secured with one of her siblings.
Growing up, Asche was very close with Oswald Ghostcrane, Aethelflaed's son, and they would remain kindred spirits in adulthood. Upon coming of age, Asche selected by the tribe elders to study Lithomancy in Pestilentia. They earned the rank of Gladia before joining the Dolomedes warbands as Oswald's retainer and war-magician.
