Centaur
Centaurs are noble, fey-born beings who embody the harmony of beast and Spirit, galloping freely through enchanted glades, endless twilight groves, and ancient moonlit plains. Their bodies are a seamless blend of equine grace and humanoid intellect—broad-chested and tall, with the lower body of a powerful horse and the upper torso of an elven or human-like figure, often adorned in natural armor grown from bark, moss, or flowering vines. Their Fey heritage manifests in glimmering eyes, hair that flows like silk woven from wind and leaves, and a voice that carries the cadence of running streams and rustling canopies.
Centaurs are ancient denizens of The Feywild, believed to be born from the union of wild nature and the Dreaming Heart of the plane itself. They are not just creatures of the forest—they are its stewards, guardians, and sacred messengers. In many fey myths, centaurs are said to have been created by the primal will of The Verdant Court to act as swift scouts and impartial judges of the wild, delivering word and warning across the sprawling realms of fey influence.
Their society is loosely tribal but deeply spiritual, revering the stars, constellations, and cycles of the moon. Centaurs are guided by ancient rites of skywatching and Celestial memory, and their shamans, called Starbinders, read the movements of the heavens like tomes of fate. Their migrations often follow ley lines and celestial alignments, and it is said that their hooves awaken magic slumbering deep within the earth as they run.
Despite their often aloof or stoic demeanor, centaurs are fiercely loyal and honorable. They despise manipulation and trickery—traits Common among other fey—and often act as arbiters in disputes between fey courts or guardians of sacred places where mortal and fey worlds touch. Their oaths, once given, are as enduring as stone and as swift as a storm.
Centaurs are divided between two major cultures: the Skyhoof Clans, who roam the open Feywild and revere the stars, and the Rootbound Kin, who dwell in deep, ancient woods, acting as druids and guardians of primal groves. While both revere nature, the Skyhoof see themselves as agents of fate and destiny, while the Rootbound focus on balance, healing, and the slow rhythms of the earth.
Though most centaurs remain in the Feywild, some cross into the material world—especially during times of great imbalance or divine upheaval. These rare travelers often act as emissaries for the Verdant Court or serve as wild knights in service to powerful Archfey such as Liora, The Blooming Thorn.
Centaurs view the world through the lens of the eternal wild: vast, unknowable, and sacred. They mourn the loss of every old tree, honor the passage of every fallen star, and teach that true strength is the freedom to run, the wisdom to listen, and the will to protect the land one touches.
