Sea Elf
The Sea Elves of Aigusyl, known to themselves as the Tavari'el, are a graceful and proud people who dwell beneath the waves and along the remote coasts of the continent. Born of both elven blood and oceanic magic, they are as fluid and untamed as the sea itself. Their origins trace back to the Elder Age, when a splinter group of high elves fled inland conflicts and made a pact with the Leviathans of the Deep—mighty sea spirits who granted them the means to breathe water, endure crushing depths, and commune with marine life.
With skin tones ranging from shimmering pearl and dusky teal to rich coral-reds and deep indigo, Sea Elves are unmistakably otherworldly. Their hair often flows like seaweed in hues of silver, aquamarine, or kelp green, and their eyes reflect the endless ocean—glassy, ancient, and unfathomable. Gills flutter at their necks, and fine webbing stretches between fingers and toes, though they move just as gracefully on land as beneath the waves.
The Tavari'el live in intricate cities of coral, stone, and bioluminescent glass built within reefs, trenches, and sea caves. Their society values freedom, song, and tradition, often ruled by councils of elders and tidecallers—Sea Elf druids and sorcerers who interpret the moods of the ocean. Music is sacred to them, believed to calm Leviathans and carry prayers to Ssa'Thyr, Leviathan of the Coiled Abyss whom many Sea Elves revere as a divine ancestor or protector.
Sea Elves are wary of surface dwellers, remembering ancient wars and broken treaties with humans and land elves. Yet, in times of great need, they rise from the depths to defend Aigusyl’s balance, often acting as emissaries of the sea gods or guardians of the drowned ruins where secrets from The Fracture War lie entombed. They are especially sensitive to disruptions in the Weave caused by overuse of magic or pollution of sacred waters.
Although Sea Elves can be aloof or even hostile to outsiders, they are deeply loyal to those who earn their trust. To them, friendship is like an anchor—slow to form, but steadfast in even the fiercest storm.
