The Coiled Abyss

Hidden far beneath the tranquil brilliance of the Sapphire Sea lies a dread chasm known only as the Coiled Abyss—an ancient, spiraling trench that plummets endlessly into the planet’s crust, its walls twisting in unnatural geometry. No light touches its lowest depths. Even magical illumination is swallowed whole, bent by an unseen pressure that defies comprehension.

The Abyss is not merely a wound in the world—it is a living, dreaming thing. Many believe it is the burial site of a slain god, while others claim it is a gateway to the Writhing Deep, the realm of the Leviathans. The waters grow colder and darker near it, and even the bravest sea creatures avoid its vicinity. The currents twist oddly in its proximity, dragging ships that linger too long toward a silent, drowning death.

Spirals of black coral and bone-like ridges form natural paths into the trench, though none have returned who dared descend its full depth. Whispers say the Leviathan Ssa’thyr slumbers—or schemes—within the heart of the Abyss, and that its breath alone causes nightmares across the sea. Others speak of an ancient oracle bound in chains of voidlight, weeping truths no mortal should hear.

Even the Dragon Gods of Magic speak cautiously of the Coiled Abyss, as if it is something that should not exist, or worse, something that always will.
