The chamber was dimly lit, with only one of the four sconces casting an eerie green glow. Despite my usual lack of agility, I managed to cross the pit effortlessly, thanks to a stroke of luck. Upon reaching the other side, I swiftly severed the dead quasit’s hand with my dagger and performed the ritual of Dead Man’s Tell. The hand, now animated by the spell, pointed towards the south wall of the previous room. I informed my companions of this revelation.
While I was engaged in the ritual, Jean Marie discovered the name ALADRON TARNENBRIL inscribed in Draconic, along with the ominous title "Betrayer". Meanwhile, Felonious examined the sconce with the green flame, feeling its heat as if it were a normal fire.
The others navigated the spike trap, while Felonious and I attempted to open the sarcophagus. We undid the latches and tried to pry it open, but despite our combined efforts, we lacked the strength to lift the heavy lid. Draxon and the others, except for Felonious, were wary of disturbing the sarcophagus. I sought guidance through augury from my god Savras to determine if opening it would be beneficial or detrimental.
As I performed the augury, the others searched for the secret chamber. Draxon succeeded in locating it, revealing a very low door through which Felonious slid. In the corner, he found a crack in the wall and opened another, even smaller door.
This chamber turned out to be a mere bypass to the spike trap. By the time Felonious emerged, my augury was complete, and Savras had clearly indicated that opening the sarcophagus would bring woe.
We decided to return to the main chamber and leave the sarcophagus undisturbed. Upon entering the chamber with the globes, we encountered three goblins: two archers and a boss goblin. We dispatched them swiftly, but Uttu sent me a message warning of kobolds in the trap hallway.
I quickly searched the goblins before we devised a plan to deal with the kobolds. I attempted to lure them out by shouting insults in goblin, but to no avail. Instead, we had Draxon attack. We picked off the kobolds from behind the door, but one was attempting to reload the wasp trap. I cast Bewilder on him, causing him to drop the nest and be attacked by his own trap. He fled, and the others, discouraged, followed him. The wasps took out one of the archers as they tried to escape.
One of the fleeing kobolds attempted to bar and lock the door, but Draxon broke through. Inside, we found evidence of a recent fire to the north, a wooden bench in the center, and a small cage nearby with a gaping hole. A bedroll near the bench concealed a whimpering kobold, who pleaded, "Please don't hurt Meatball".
Other kobolds continued their assault, but one fled. I managed to slow him down repeatedly, allowing my companions to catch up and finish him off.
