Holy Hill

Holy Hill is an ancient city that sits atop a rocky island spire, north of the nation of Hindland in Realm 79: The Junction.   For centuries it has been the religious capital of the world of Midland. Monuments and temples of various ancient eras of time have been built here, many of which remain and co-exist with buildings and sculptures of various eras of history.

In the most recent era, it was the seat of the Sovereign Hierarch. This organization oversaw the religious affairs of the continent of Queldorum, acting as an independent power to the various surrounding nations.   It technically fell under the jurisdiction of the nation of Hindland. After the fall of King MaxMarcus VI, it was taken over by forces of The Contingency, and then annexed by an unknown, foreign power.   With this annexation came the destruction of the Great Bridge, the only means of connection to the mainland of Hindland.

Ancient texts and legends, housed in the Library of Aletheia, describe a fable of an ancient tree, so enourmous that its branches eventually touched the stars in the sky.   This tree was a seat of great power, and its roots reached through the world. Over time it is said that the tree died, and gradually petrified. But still, the shadow of the tree offered much spiritual power.   In this ancient, forgotten era, a calamity occured, caused by the collapse of the petrified tree. The giant tower that made up the trunk of the tree collapsed, destroying everything in its path. The side effects of this worldwide catastrophe ended all known civilization.   Legends say that the branches of the tree crumbled, but remained in the sky, eventually coalescing into the rings seen in the sky of the world of Midland.   The same legends claim that the petrified remains of this tree became the rocky island spire which eventually became known as Holy Hill.
