The Defiling of Holy Hill

The Defiling of Holy Hill was an invasion of the island of Holy Hill in Realm 79: The Junction.
After secretly overthrowing the Council of the Sovereign Hierarch, the Dark Seer lured the resistance group known as the Free Peoples of True Hindland to the Seat of the Sovereign Hierarch.
It was there that the secret royal and heir to the MaxMarcus throne was slain.
Meanwhile, followers of The Contingency had been agitated into storming the holy city.

It is unclear if the mob was going to be framed for the execution of the Council of the Sovereign Hierarch, and perhaps also used to capture or kill the Deaconess.
The Deaconess managed to escape the island, with the help of the resistance group.
The city of Holy Hill was effectively sacked. The Great Bridge was destroyed. In the aftermath, unknown forces, presumably allied with or controlling The Contingency, annexed Holy Hill.

The Conflict

Prelude

The groundwork for the annexation of Holy Hill was apparently laid with the execution of the MaxMarcus royal family, and the rise of The Contingency in Hindland.

Deployment

The forces of The Contingency were local forces from Hindland, radicalized or otherwise recruited to take action on behalf of the mysterious movement.

Battlefield

The guards of Holy Hill put up a token resistance at the Great Bridge, and through the halls of the Seat of the Sovereign Hierarch.

Outcome

Holy Hill was effectively removed as a seat of power on the continent, and the Deaconess went into exile.

Aftermath

The resistance groups of Hindland rallied behind the Deaconess, along with other exiles from Holy Hill, founding the city of Aletheia.
Holy Hill became heavily fortified. Meanwhile, the complete lack of leadership on the continent saw Hindland descend into unrest.

Historical Significance

Technological Advancement

Simple printing-press style operations were used to produce propaganda which directed the followers of The Contingency. This was aided by a mail transportation network which relied on small, fixed portals.
