Invincible Character in Villain Academy | World Anvil

Invincible

The man generally considered to be the most powerful of the superheroes of the United States of America, possessing the honorary title of the Top Hero of Washington D.C. as a result. He is also the closest thing that the modern world has to real world Superman, with Invincible sharing his aesthetic and a notable part of a skillset. He is also considered something of an ideal to which all the heroes should strive to.   This is in stark contrast to Invincible's true nature, which is that of a man filled with regret and guilt, who continues to do his best to maintain the facade of the infallible superhero in order to give the citizens hope for the future.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

His tendency to resemble Superman aren't limited to his hero outfit and individuality, but also includes his body shape. He is muscular, but not 'overly' muscular. He might have an individuality that allows him to perform superhuman feats of strength and durability without actually using his muscles, but he finds that as no excuse not to train them in case they turned out to be useful.

Special abilities

His individuality is called Force. It is a form of telekinesis that he can apply to himself or to objects/areas in direct contact with his body - so, in short, a tactile telekinesis. He can use it to fly, but it's merely the simplest of usage. His individuality is extremely powerful and well trained, to the point when his body can be rendered practically indestructible by physical means, Invincible fully capable of withstanding hits from heavy weaponry (including railguns, even the ones mounted as main weaponry in tanks).   He can also use it simulate superstrength. This resulted in him creating his own martial arts from a combination of several other martial arts (ranging from boxing through krav maga to aikido), tailored for maximum efficiency when reinforced with his individuality. As a result, fighting Invincible at a melee distance is considered to be a creative form of suicide, as he is a martial artist who could effortlessly punch through a front tank armor when needed.   He can also use it to carry massive objects without the risk of accidentally 'flying' through them. He is capable of flying around with objects such big as a cruise ship by enveloping them in his telekinetic field (although it's straining, even for him).   Another application are telekinetic constructs. When in a pinch, he can change his arms into blades by forming an invisible telekinetic blades around them - changing his default blunt damage into a slashing one at will. He can also expand those invisible objects - for example to switch a button he can see from his position but can't reach it, or to create a several meters long invisible shield to stop the enemies from injuring civilians he was tasked with protecting.   The final known usage of his individuality is touching the enemy's throat in order to project his field in a way to controllably apply pressure to their carotid artery, leading to his opponent losing consciousness in a manner of few seconds, his chosen way of non-lethal takedowns (that also leaves his enemies unable to shout for help, allowing him to easily take down his enemies quietly when he decides that a stealthier approach is needed.

Apparel & Accessories

His superhero uniform is visibly inspired by Superman. The differences is the color palette (It's mostly white and red, with some carefully placed stripes), letter I instead of S, and the fact that his cape is decorated with 48 stars, each for a single state of the United States of America.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Invincible is keeping his past strictly hidden from the world, a fact that's not easy to achieve even when you have the government's backing. No one knows where he was born, and his true name is even more hidden than those of other heroes.   The truth is that he came from a poor household, his family being descendants of the refugees that fled to the Eastern United States following the Yellowstone Supervolcano eruption and never really found their place to fit in. Invincible himself never really fit in, seeing the world as 'wrong' and in a need of 'fixing'. In normal times, he would look for political radicals promising a 'simple' fix to all of the world's woes on the internet. In times directly following the Wishgranter's passage, Invincible resorted to something else.   Back in the very beginning of the individualities, the government was yet to realize the true treat that the Archvile was posing. The knowledge about his existence wasn't yet suppressed, leading to many conspiracy theories and creepypastas about a 'demon' offering powers to people seeking to commit evil deeds. Invincible, unlike most of the public, believed in those.   And he managed not to just find Archvile... but also to cheat the demon himself. It took him weeks to renovate an abandoned building on the outskirts of the town and make it appear like an orphanage - together with a fake internet page. Then he pretended in front of Archvile to be a former graduate of that orphanage that wanted to take revenge on its caretakers - one of which was a great fan of superheroes, leading to Invincible demanding a 'Superman-like' power to make his death ironic.   It is said that Archvile was never truly angry during his entire career as a supervillain... aside from that oen day. The day when he realized that not only there are no shouts coming from the inside of the orphanage... but that its name plate in the front of the building was freshly painted. By the time his henchmen stormed the building - its inside completely empty and ruined, for the soon-to-be hero only renovated its outsides - Invincible was long gone.   Needless to say, Archvile began to do very proper background checks of the people he was planning to give an individuality from then on, making sure that this particular fuck-up would not happen again.   Thus started their long rivalry. Archvile continuing to attempt to destroy Invincible for cheating him, and Invincible attempting to finally end Archvile while climbing up the ranks of the heroes and ending the rampages of as many of the Archvile-made villains as he could. It was a dirty battle, with Invincible being fully ready to engage in illegal activities behind the scene (typically through a handful of his sidekicks, especially the Seer and Negator, the two major members of his inner circle. Archvile, naturally, went even further.   This included killing Invincible's wife.   As a result of it, Invincible grew overly protective of his son (the boy who would one day become Revenant, the president of the Villain Alliance of America, denying him a chance for a career in heroics over fears of him becoming Archvile's target. He didn't elaborate on the reason for that, wanting to keep Archvile's existence hidden in order to let his son live a normal life without fear of a dark lord of America being after his life. He didn't even let his son know that he was actually Invincible, sticking to his civilian persona in front of him and pretending to be an regular worker of the Invincible's hero agency.   This backfired spectacularly when he got his son expelled from a hero school (that he enrolled into without his knowledge) following Archvile's attack on it and the subsequent discovery that his son was a student. Revenant vanished after realizing that his father was actually the greatest hero of the United States - but before his father could confront him and actually explain his reasons. Unfortunately, he vanished because Archvile managed to claim him, having known of him for a long time and waiting for just the right moment to intervene and twist him into villainy.   Invincible continued to frantically look for his son, while attempting to finally track and dispose of Archvile properly. This finally happened at almost the same time as the government's nuking of the People's Liberation Front headquarters, the clash - due to Revenant persuading Nemesis and Judgment to abandon their father at the last second before Invincible's arrival, resulted in Archvile's swift and brutal death.   He continued to look for his son for three more years. In the end, it was his son that made himself known to the world, when he announced himself publicly to the be the head of the Villain Alliance of America at the begining of the Liberation Festival, a massive nation-wide prison break that started the Second Villain War.

Mental Trauma

Losing his wife to Archvile was a big one for him, resulting in Invincible growing overly protective of his son. Which, due to miscommunications (and, to be exact, Invincible's inability to communicate his reasons for that, at least partially due to said trauma) resulted in his son turning into a supervillain. Which, basically, is another big trauma for him.

Intellectual Characteristics

He isn't a mastermind, using others for the investigative work and more strategic approach to operations. He is, however, a brilliant tactician, who can figure out correct applications of his versatile individuality on the fly, and possesses combat experience counted in decades. His smarts tend to be undervalued by villains due to his public persona (which is kind of a 'jock-like', to a degree).

Morality & Philosophy

Invincible is dedicated to saving as many people as possible (and thus making the world a bit of a better place than the one he was born in) and considers himself loyal to the US Government as a legal representative of the citizens of the United States of America. That doesn't mean that he is unwilling to complain about regulations he doesn't like, or that he doesn't skip the corners when he believes that the situation calls for it. Seer's backstory is an extremely good example of that.   He believes that a proper hero should be an inspiring individual, leading to him maintaining a smiling and happy facade, even when deep inside he's all but happy. This also led to him having the track record of always doing his best to arrest rather than kill even the most dangerous of villains, though there are cases when he is drawing the line (such as civilians lives being at stake, or the supervillain being Archvile).

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Strengths
Possibly the most dangerous superhero of the world, basically undefeatable at close range and capable of moving fast enough to engage even fast moving enemies in melee before promptly apprehending them. His individuality also makes him basically impervious to physical damage, aside from someone literally dropping a small nuke on him. Is also a fast-thinking tactician who trained his willpower in order to resist all but the strongest means of mind-control.

Weaknesses
He remains vulnerable to poisons, though after several nearly-successful assasination attempts on him (courtesy of Archvile), he is always on guard against them. He also isn't above using a gasmask when fighting an enemy capable of creating poison gas. Using his individuality to its maximum (such as when he is holding something massive to prevent it from falling onto civilians below) will also leave him vulnerable to attacks. He is also vulnerable to non-physical attacks (such as flame), but he naturally trained himself how to deal with those.   Other than, he has no weaknesses.

Social

Family Ties

Had a wife, whom the Archvile managed to murder despite his best efforts. WIth her, he had a single child - Revenant.
