Revenant Character in Villain Academy | World Anvil

Revenant

Revenant is a person that could serve as a walking proof that sometimes, the worst villains are those who were denied a chance to become heroes (or even former heroes) - and that sometimes, one can get from nobody to nightmare in a manner of few years. All it takes is a proper individuality and some proper, personal motivation to take the step.   Revenant, after all, moved from being a hero trainee and a major fanboy of superheroes to a supervillain and a leader of largest villainous team-up in contemporary history, one dedicated to the task of ending the existence of heroes in North America (at the very least), in less than ten years.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Revenant is fit and surprisingly agile, strong and flexible, due to his individuality. It's all somewhere between baseline human capabilities and what dedicated individualities allow you to do, meaning that physically speaking he is a jack of all trades - but a master of none. He is also considered to be largely immune to diseases and toxins at this point, once again due to his individuality. His self-augmentation of bodily processess also leaves him looking significantly younger than he truly is, most of people describing him at as '20-21 years old' at a first glance.

Body Features

Neck-length but rather messy hair. Used to be black, but he dyed them permanently with some individuality (or nanomachines) into white, with some black strands. No one knows why, but some speculate that to be a form of a reference to Destro's hair colour.

Special abilities

His individuality is called Mastery. It makes him learn things much faster than he normally should, something which improves his body and mind alike. He might be a villainous mastermind for several years, however is effective experience level is at least thrice as long. What's more, once his body reaches its limit on a certain field, it will adapt to it and raise the effective growth ceiling, allowing him to improve further (although the adaption process is said to be excruciatingly painful).   The abilities he uses on a daily basis - like memory - has long ago reached the level of superhuman. It also includes certain functions of his body, like his liver's ability to filter toxin and his immune system, both effectively approaching perfection.

Apparel & Accessories

His standard villain outfit is a black business suit, with a large white fur collar. Business suit is, naturally, bulletproof, fireproof and acidproof. Privately he tends to wear a variety of non-descript T-shirts/trousers, always in black color. He is believed to be signifying the fact that he is still mourning Onslaught's death that way.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Revenant was born as one of the very first second generation individuality holder, merely four years after the passage of the Wishgranter through the Solar System. His mother died soon after his birth, leading to him being brought up by his father on his own. Due to said father working pretty hard (as one of the many employees of Invincible's hero agency, he was largely on his own, although his father made it rather clear that he DID, in fact, love him a lot. Doing his utmost to spend as much time as possible with his son.   The only thing where they disagreed heavily was Revenant's father refusal to agree with his son's dream of heroics.   Eventually, Revenant ended up tricking his father in order to join a hero school with a board system somewhere in the reclaimed Midwest area. This lasted until his father found out about his presence (in the aftermath of Archvile's attack on it and pressured the school into expelling Revenant. It was also then that Revenant discovered that his father wasn't working in Invincible's hero agency - his father WAS Invincible.   Before his father had the time to confront him about this, Revenant disappeared. Archvile managed to (finally) grab him. After learning some things from him, he was then handed to the Destro's organization right at the beggining of the First Villain War and soon become something of a personal assistant to the supervillain himself, with Destro clearly thinking of him warmly enough to slightly push him into marrying his daughter, Onslaught, whom he considered to be his most important person in the world.   The marriage was about to happen, when the headquarters of Destro's organization were destroying by the Government with a tactical nuke (a panic reaction caused by the realization that Archvile, their boogeyman, now has an army). With Onslaught and Destro dead, Revenant vanished again, only to begin assembling his own villain organization (the Villain Alliance of America) with the task of ending the heroics for good.

Mental Trauma

Revenant never really recovered from what happened to Onslaught. His adoptive daughter, Chronoshift is by all intents and purposes his replacement goldfish, and that's putting it lightly. It's not even known if he truly and honestly plans to survive the Second Villain War, or if it's simply his way of saying goodbye to the world. Even his villain name is a reference to this, Revenant considering himself to be an angry ghost looking for revenge.

Intellectual Characteristics

Extremely intelligent individual, and a bona fide villainous mastermind. His specializations are tactics and strategies, although learning from Destro has also rendered him an extremely competent organizer. His only weakness on that field is the fact that he has certain degree of issues with interpersonal relations, resulting in Revenant occassionaly alienating someone he didn't plan to alienate or failing to get hints about potential disloyalty and dissatisfaction among his followers.

Morality & Philosophy

Revenant has moved long past having moral qualms about villainy, although he is from the 'goal-oriented' school of supervillainy. He is ready to do a lot of horrible things to win, but he refuses to do horrible things just to do horrible things. He also has recurrent' moments when he consciously refuses to do something particularly bad, simply because he deemed it as too evil.   On the other hand, he divides his assets into 'allies' and 'tools' - he is fully ready to employ total monsters, although only as 'tools'. Which, in turn, means that they'll be abandoned (if not backstabbed intentionally) when they are no longer useful to him.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Strengths
Superhuman intellect and planning skills, combined with charisma, make him into who he is today - a menace to the society and the heroes alike. He knows how to apply his followers' strengths and minimize their weaknesses to maximum effectiveness... and it shows.

Weaknesses
His personal combat skills are inferior to those of at least solid half of villains and heroes, forcing him to relay on his followers to defend him (or not show up anywhere near the active battlefields at all). He also struggles with interpersonal relationships, on several occasions losing allies due to miscommunication and/or misunderstatements. .
