Divine Trifecta

Gods, Devils, and Demons

The Divine Trifecta is the term for the inherent properties of magic that originates from the three divine sources: Holy, Infernal, and Demonic. These three counteract each other in ways that no other form of magic do.

Power of the Heavens

All of the aspects of the Divine Trifecta have powers that can be wielded by mortals, though their origins are from the very foundations of existence itself in the three aspects of the Divine Trifecta.   These powers, when wielded due to blessings, claims, rituals, or other methods, then make the wielder of that power subject to the properties of its respective divine category, as the Gods themselves and their immediate surroundings and creations are.

Origins

The Trifecta's powers originated not as three, but as one singular power: Holy.   Thus, the Holy category is the foundation of the trifecta, its highest honor and yet the most commonly bestowed, as there are many Gods capable of gifting the power of the Holy category to those willing to take it.   The Demonic category came next, as a response to the Gods, when the God of Demons, Chernobog, struck out on his own, forming the Void. He had planned to kill all Gods, and so he had found a way to change his very existence to be contrary to the Gods.

Soon after, the God of Devils, Satanael also struck out on his own. However, the Gods were prepared, and made sure to banish Satanael to Hell, his own Heavenly Realm, where the properties would be to their benefit.

Divine Weakness

A counterbalance came to be from this, as Chernobog and all things Demonic held power over all that was Holy, but the Holy forces of the Gods counteracted Satanael and his Devils. Satanael found that he, too, had a power in this new realm, as he was particularly strong against all that was Demonic.   All three have power over one of the other categories in the Divine Trifecta, and are weak to another. Holy is weak to Demonic but powerful against Infernal, Infernal is weak to Holy but powerful against Demonic, and Demonic is weak to Infernal but powerful against Holy. It creates a balance where all three forces can spread influence semi-equally in the mortal plane, fearing the influence of the others, and thus not pushing too far to not disturb their enemies.

A Mortal's Place

Mortals also have magic, and it does originate from the very Heavens that also supply the Holy power of the Divine Trifecta. The difference is that mortal magic, generally, is supplied by the will of the wielder rather than given by the Gods, as mortals simply draw upon divine power that is within them from the moment of creation.   Due to this, all mortals that have not been directly given power by the Gods (Holy, Infernal, or Demonic), are not subject to the Divine Trifecta. Their magic is unhindered by anything it gives, making mortals the neutral ground. When the Trifecta is represented as a triangle, the space between the three points is considered the mortals.

Divine Trinity

There are three types of divinity, stemming from the different types of Gods. These divine categories, and their powers, are as follows.

Holy

The standard category of all Gods, all but two Gods fall into this category. There are many different powers that can be given, but the standard magic that comes from this is Holy Might, where a mortal individual is granted a blessing and power as befits the domain of a God. This power can be anything as long as it suits the God and the mortal, but no matter what it is always a Holy Power.   Alongside Holy Might, there are also Mightems, Divine Magic, Balor, and Item Magics that are all largely adherant to the properties of standard Holy-type magic.   As well as this, magical beings with divine properties are also subject to the categorization of Holy. Gods, Demigods, Angels, and other such beings are Holy creatures. Priests, too, are considered Holy.

Infernal

Infernal is the category for all things relating to Hell and its many layers, as well as its God, Satanael. The power of Area Devil Abilities is one that anyone can wield if they eat brimstone or claim an area of Hell, and thus the greatest Infernal power is not just wielded by his followers nor the residents of Hell.   An Area Devil Ability is a power that represents the very heart of the one that first claimed the area, and thus it can be incredibly powerful. If not for its weakness to Holy attacks, some Area Devils would be unstoppable.   It is not just Area Devils, but all Devils, even those without abilities, that are in the Infernal category. Even without an ability, all Devils are weak to Holy spells and strong against all things Demonic. As are Imps, Satanael himself, and other creatures of Hell such as Hell Hounds and Pencil-Pushing Pups.

Demonic

Demonic is a category for all things related to the Void, as well as its God Chernobog and his Demon Lords.   The power of Demonic Possession is how mortals may channel the Demonic category of magic, calling forth Demons into their bodies and taking on the power of those otherworldly beings for their own means. This also grants the Demons themselves control of the mortal bodies, as they cannot manifest themselves on Totania without a vessel.   The mortals under the Demonic category are Fiends, residents of the Void. Alongside them are other Demonic creatures, as well as Chernobog and his many Demon Lords.
