List of Notable NPCs/NPC Groups
Abigail Milo
Human wizard (school of transmutation) party member with Findex and Ervathan. While her grandparents were prominent figures in Ixlyria many decades ago, their fortunes were turned due to lawsuits and governmental misconduct against them, putting her parents into poverty, so that she had a poor upbringing. Thus, she had no hard feelings about staying at the Academy when war broke out. She as damaged more than one classroom already through transmutation spells going rather powerfully wrong in one way or another.Alethramach
AlethramachPrince Alursag
Scion of the Clan of Rhaaztum, who was undertaking a quest to reclaim the air rift of the southern Saravich Mountains as his ancestral right (current residents of the small-folk in the way be damned), when he and his invasion force were killed by the adventurers of the Gentle Night. Unlike his ancestors, he grew warry of the faith of Memnor, the trickery god of the cloud giants, after having been failed by the prophecies of one of that faith's priestesses (who he had executed for her failures).Alyndra Autumnlight
A first-term councilwoman and the youngest of the three elves on the Ixlan Republic Elder High Council, she is an incredibly adept sorcerer and bard known for being highly eloquent and persuasive. She comported herself as a proper and polished politician, but those who spend any significant time with her knew that she was shrewd and almost always angling for power. With the ousting of dragons from the High Council in 9th-Month, and the other tiers of that council becoming deferential to the Elder tier, she became one of the three members of the de facto "Elven Triumvirate" at the head of the Ixlan Republic. She knew that Alethramach was working in disguise under Nevarth's identity as one of the triumvirate members, but she did not know that they have previously conspired with Dinalth to bring about the underdark coup, nor any of their other alliances. She thought they were simply a dragon who was power-hungry and had a grudge against the academy dragons (feelings she could relate to), rather than an architect of chaos across the continent. However, shortly after the centuries-deceased Veidrorith was brought to unlife as a dracolich (by as of yet unconfirmed means, though there is some suspicion it was carried out by Devesaerith), following the demise of her partner Old Gri, Alyndra was killed by Veidrorith and her identity stolen by her. This was somehow done with sufficient magical prowess that Alethramach did not even know that she had been replaced. However, this replacement was discovered by Hypatia via a Dream spell targeting Veidrorith. Upon the killing of Alethramach, "Alyndra" began taking nearly immediate interaction, as if responding to an ongoing coup attempt, claiming that Nevarth had been slain and that she and Thallan were in imminent danger (i.e., Veidrorith was alerted somehow as to what happened). She fled the city aboard a skyship with a contingent of conciliar (non-military) guards within the hour of Alethramach's demise.Astadrilnolnyn (Asta)

See full article: Audrarith See also: Audrarith (Alternate Timeline)Briza Melduis
Non-binary drow ranger (gloomstalker) of the now disbanded "Wise Guys" party. A cautious and reserved figure, they are nevertheless a moment's notice away whenever their party members are in need. Was called back to aid their family in the underdark, which was part of what caused the disbanding of their party. Was not heard from for the duration of the war with the Dinalthian Dynasty, which was particularly worrisome given the recent coup and that their House is loyal to the Montspring Compact rather than the Dynasty. This worry was not without cause, as upon the peace treaty between the two nations and the settling of their relations, it was discovered that she was killed in an attempted industrial sabotage operation against the Dynasty.Conall Craxalim
Non-binary elf druid (circle of stars)/cleric (twilight domain) multiclass student, and former party member of Fiona. They often affirm their superiority under the guise of helping out those "less gifted" than they are, but has taken the mandated separation of their initial party surprisingly poorly.Darnell
Elderly male human, notable Fighter professor who is known for being strict, but effective in instruction.Devesaerith
Elder sister of Audrarith, daughter of Veidrorith, and granddaughter of Iymrith. She is an ancient blue dragon, who not only infiltrated the leadership of the giants, but attained for herself some level of deific powers, under the identity of Hierophant Everissa. This is in fulfillment of what Audrarith and others described as her driving motivation in life: to succeed where her grandmother had failed in infiltrating and gaining power over giant-kind. Her ruse was uncovered by Gentle Night crew along with Audrarith after systematically going through the possible persons who could have cast the Dreams on the party following the Fort Laduhr summit, though as of mid 11th Month, she has not been confronted about it. She is known to be a "Chosen of Tiamat" under the epitaph "The One Who Watches," though with her role as a figure of divine importance with regards to the Giant pantheon, it is unclear what exactly is the nature of her magic or machinations, seemingly stretching across several divine realms.Dinalth and Torvoroar

Former captain of the Gentle Night, a genderfluid changeling Order of Scribes wizard. Formerly the first mate of Rhiwa (who they knew to be a simulacra of Audrarith), they had become dissatisfied with Audrarith's penchant for secrecy. Tended to be very clever about what details are shared back with the academy regarding the goings of of the adventuring crew of their vessel, with the aim of keeping suspicion/attention off of them. Later revealed to have some prior family connections to the Academy, with their uncle Cyran serving as a fairly high-ranking agent with the Onyx Wing (the Academy's covert ops group). After their departure from the Gentle Night, has been assigned to lead design and construction of a whole Night-class of skyships (operating on the same arcane propulsion design).Hierophant Everissa
A storm giant of great renown, she is the supreme religious leader of the giants of Hylnir, the holiest of holy cities for giantkind and the site of the Elemental Nexus (a pair of elemental rifts, of air and earth, within meters of each other). She is revered as a demigod amongst the giants, as she speaks as the voice for the entire pantheon of the gods of giants, and she has magical abilities befitting that status. What the citizens of Hylnir don't realize (and presumably nobody has, until the crew of the Gentle Night and Audrarith connected the details), however, is that she has been carrying out a centuries-long ruse of deific scale, and is in fact the blue dragon Devesaerith in disguise. She was initially supportive of the efforts of the Clan of Rhaaztum, until Alursag killed one of her priestesses of Memnor, and as a result, she was content with Alursag's demise at the hands of adventurers. Upon the killing of Old Gri (the partner of a descendant of Iymrith, as outward motivation, and more secretly, with him being her father), she sent a celestial familiar, the raven Gethli, to aid Hypatia. It was later described by the Hierophant that this was to aid her endeavors against the descendants of Iymrith, who "Everissa" was stated to strongly oppose. However, with the truth of her nature being uncovered, it was suspected that this (and the other boons granted the party) was to send this crew of adventurers (who were delving too close to discovering her secrets) on a two-fold quest: to eliminate the rival "Chosen of Tiamat" and go on a wild-goose-chase (as a distraction) after the dracolich Veidrorith. The compass of Rhaaztum, in tracking Iymrith's blood, accurately traced a signature to her, however, when the party met with the Hierophant, she misled them into believing that it was instead tracing the gem on the amulet she wore, which contained the "imprisoned" Devesaerith.Felkath Daardendrian
Elderly Crystal Dragonborn, who was a long-time General of the Ixlan Republic's military. She was Kireg's grandmother and Surina's great-grandmother. She had been a firm proponent of the belief that dragonborns were created as slaves to the dragons in ages long past, and in turn held a firm anti-dragon sentiment. This contributed to her alliance with the elves of the elder triumvirate in their ousting of dragons from office and declarations of war against the Montspring Compact, Dinalthian Dynasty, and Planimrest & Tiamauri, all three of which are/were led by dragons. In the first week of Eleventh-Month of 724, the academy attempted to set a coup in motion by providing Felkath with intelligence regarding the situation with Nevarth and Thallan. However, the team doing so was led in to a fatal trap instead, when "Felkath" revealed herself to instead be a Draconian fiend, seemingly allied with Alyndra. Later divinations on the part of the academy confirmed that the true Felkath was deceased. However, only two or so weeks later, based on what was learned in those events, and the imminent strike against the "elven imposters", Onyx Wing operatives successfully infiltrated and replaced several members of the military leadership, most notably Felkath, whose prior fiendish imposter was replaced by Gudranox, a cunning but loyal sapphire dragon protege of Jadvigal's from when she was herself in the role of an Ixlan Republic General. With the killing of "Nevarth" (Alethramach) and flight of "Alyndra" (Veidrorith) and "Thallan" from the capitol (and the continuing inaction of the middle and younger teir councils), General Felkath took leadership of the Ixlan Republic under obscure constitutional (and perhaps not fully applicable / legally justified) provisions as a Commander-in-Chief, it what swiftly became known as the "Serene Dawn Uprising." Such a move might have been swiftly opposed if not for the prompt pursuit of:- Immediate cease-fires with the Union of Omros nations and the Dinalthian Dynasty, and re-opening continental and international free trade
- Convocation of provincial assembles to negotiate a new constitution under militaristic-democratic (rather than meritocratic) principles
- A proposed compromise around the ostensibly "root issue" of the conflict (disproportionate political power of dragons): re-align the age-based representation tiers without counting magical means of life extension, thus putting dragons at around 110, firmly in the middle, rather than elder, tier.
Fiona Moulinet

Human-Werewolf paladin (oath of the ancients) party member with Findex and Ervathan. Her family (at least the lycanthrope side) is originally from the alpine forests of the Wyrmback range in the Kingdom of Moclyae, but were displaced to the northern Golden Coast a generation or two ago. A bit beholden to a "werewolf's code of honor", she has been responsible for quite a few duels in her first few months at the academy, almost all of which she has won.Halimath Galanodel
See full article: Halimath GalanodelHalwin "Hal" Copperplume
Hal the Owlin is the personal courier of Audrarith on the Torrentha campus, and he is often seen flitting and flying about delivering and receiving any and all correspondence with the dragon provost. Talks very fast, as seems to be a common trait among Audrarith's assistants.Isatina Silverfellow
Female halfling cleric (twilight domain) of the now disbanded "Wise Guys" party, who took a quick friendship to her fellow party member Surina. As of present, has had to go on leave from the academy to attend to illness in the family back home.Jadvigal

Ancient black dragon who claims the entire collapsed nation of the Laukyn Ruins as his domain. Known by the epitaph "the One Who Waits", he is thought to be the oldest living dragon in this world, and has a particular attunement to time magic. Divination has revealed him to be an agent/devotee of Tiamat.Liv
Female lizardfolk, instructor in the Fighter department who specializes in ranged weapons.Liz Audaren
Gnome wizard administrative assistant who handles operations requiring the highest levels of confidentiality at the Academy. She was formerly a simulacrum of Audrarith by the name of Blizzard, having used Asta's ritual to adopt this new non-simulacra identity for herself. She wished to remain a wizard (but now having full spell slots each day) and to prioritize longevity, but without needing to be a dragon and require a hoard (and, she wasn't all that attached to being a dragon, having spent most of her prior existence in humanoid form, unable to give hints as to her true nature). Audrarith, having aided in Val's ritual, was able to fix the dispellability of the central True Polymorph spell in time for Liz's ritual (aided by her target identity being non-draconic), so unlike Asta and Val, Liz does not have to worry about a series of Dispell Magics rendering her non-existant.Nevarth Zumyra
A senior councilman and the oldest of the three elves on the Ixlan Republic Elder High Council, he was one of the only High Council members who was not a spellcaster/mage of some sort. He had been a popular figure ever since the Republic's founding, having been a leader of an Elven nation that was one of the many preceeding nations that unified to form the nearly continent-wide Republic, and he carried the air of a founding father through the Republic's history. With the ousting of dragons from the High Council, and the other tiers of that council becoming deferrential to the Elder tier, he became one of the three members of the de facto "Elven Triumvirate" at the head of the Ixlan Republic. In fact, it was at his (somewhat out of character) urging that these moves were made in late November of 724 with such haste. In the hours following their encounter with the party and young dragons, Alethramach attempted to force Nevarth into moving to order Jadvigal's arrest. When he refused, Alethramach swiftly killed him and stole his identity. The "Nevarth" that had been serving on the high council ever since has continued to be Alethramach. In turn, roughly a week after the start of the wars (so, early December 724), Alyndra began to become suspicious over "Nevarth"'s subtle changes in behavior, and confronted "him." After tense conversations and many mutual threats of violence, they settled into a compromise that required their mutual cooperation in controlling the triumvirate at the head of the Ixlan "Republic" (though, might be more accurate to have called in an "Empire" at that stage), as they both realized that either of them seizing sole control as a singular head-of-state would lead to too much political resistance that would jeopardize their power. Best to keep your enemies closest... When Alethramach was killed, "Alyndra" (Veidrorith) attempted to claim that a coup attempt was actively underway, using the claim of Nevarth being dead as proof (which was true, from a certain point of view).Osveshchen

Also known by the nickname "Kiki", she is a many centuries old (but still adult, not ancient) copper dragon practitioner of witchcraft who put a curse (of insatiable hunger and avarice) on Leila's mother and who despises Zedaar Ravomorn. Leila was given as an infant (at great expense) an "anti-curse" to prevent against this dragon's magic, however, this anti-curse turned out to have a significant set of side effects that manifested later in life...upon embracing draconic behaviors of hoarding significant amounts of wealth, she began to take on draconic features (which eventually led to her full draconification).Qris Brenketh
Male Aarakocra ranger (fey wanderer) of the disbanded "Wise Guys" party, whose plumage resembles that of a lyrebird. Charismatic and gregarious, he is often found trying to strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, even when the moment isn't right. After the disbanding of his initial party, and his only remaining compatriot Surina rising in skill far beyond him, he has decided to withdraw from studies at the academy for the year, and instead apply his skills as a ranger working at one of the Academy's many aeries (particularly the one for all the recently created dragonnels).Rainn Kriokarn
Amethyst dragonborn wizard (order of scribes) who worked as an archivist and librarian at the Torrentha Academy through his graduate studies there. He completed his graduate work last year, and has recently been assigned as a scribe, tutor, and ansible-operator for the Gentle Night crew. He has the ability to cast the spell Silent Image at will and at an increased range, which is very helpful for teaching/training purposes (target practice, illustrations, etc.). He obtained a high security clearance recently upon applying for a cryptoanalysis position with the Onyx Wing at the start of the Ixlan War, which despite not getting that position, has come in handy for his current assignment instead. Pretty quickly learned how to helm the skyship, though it his not his preference to do so unless necessary.Rhiwa
See article: RhiwaRsydalagh
Ancient bronze dragon who lives along the Temti Coast (northeast Oketh) with her partners Imuthosz and Kruvanox, she was involved in sponsoring (or at least providing weaponry and defensive gear for) the Dunhaar rebellion, where she was referred to by the code name RS, for "Revolution's Spark".Ryfon Zyltumal
Male Vulpin (foxfolk) monk (way of the drunken master) of the disbanded "Wise Guys" party, from the Gambold province (now a part of the Kanfaldi Federation). Tends to eat a lot, and drinks even more. Early in the academy year he caused one too many problems while drunk on the weekend, and is on probation from the academy until he can get his act together again...at this point, he will need to redo his first year next year.Rynim
Young male gold dragon, Monk professor and key instructor for those studying the Way of the Ascendant Dragon. Is often seen in the form of a human, with distinctive long golden hair.Sparkles
Self-chosen new name of the (formerly) Kobold priestess of the mountain peak clan, ever since she was True Polymorphed into a Young Crystal Dragon by Audrarith (as part of a bargaining agreement for the Academy to lay claim to the nearby rift mountain, and gain the Kobold clan as laborers). Used to have a druidic staff that could channel the undead spirit of "the frosted one", but lost the staff to the party, and stopped caring about it ever since being turned into a dragon. Knows that all it would take to lose her dragon form is a sufficiently powerful/lucky Dispell Magic, and is therefore rather paranoid about offending any mages, and so tends to keep to herself or her kobold minions.Surina Daardendrian
See full article: Surina DaardendrianTalgon (the Wise)
Ancient gold dragon who, up until the crisis that led to the recent civil wars, was a member of the Elder High Council of the Ixlan Republic. He was a noteworthy resident of the city of Planimrest, having his lair as a lavish estate within the city. With his ousting from the High Council and the effective secession of the province of Planimrest (alongside Tiamauri), he was named (with essentially unanimous consent) as their faction's interim leader. Killed in the Solstice Day Riots by a mob of impoverished young dragons, leading to the end of Planimrest & Tiamauri being a stable nation-state.Thallan Inaxidor
An experienced statesman and scholar, the wizard Thallan was one of the three elves on the Ixlan Republic Elder High Council. He was not trained at the Torrentha Academy, and had long been opposed to the exclusivity of Torrentha's prestige and influence. However, he remained adament to carry out any such opposition "by the book" and not through surreptitious means that would violate either the letter or sprit of the law. He was not all that elloquent in extemporaneous speech, but he had a reputation as a very persuasive writer when given time. With the recent ousting of dragons from the High Council, and the other tiers of that council becoming deferrential to the Elder tier, he became one of the three members of the de facto "Elven Triumvirate" at the head of the Ixlan Republic, though he was opposed to the (potentially illegitimate) haste with which Alyndra and Nevarth carried out such actions (though not enough to engage any of the legal mechanisms for review or checks and balances). A few weeks into the war (mid-December 724), he seemed to have a shift in additude, becoming more fully on-board with Alyndra's and Nevarth's plans. Upon being clued in by spies (who were connected to spies of Talgon who were digging too conspicuously) to the actions of Alyndra regarding the Beholder she had charmed to harass Talgon, he attempted to bring these revelations to Nevarth. However, "Nevarth" (Alethramach) already knew what was going on, alerted Alyndra, and together they killed Thallan. With Alethramach's summoning and Alyndra's binding, they brought a loyal draconian fiend to take over Thallan's identity and go along with their plans, functionally leaving the elven bard and ancient dragon as the sole authorities of the Ixlan "Republic" (which has been rapidly becoming more of an "Empire"). This binding appears to have either continued uninterrupted or was renewed when Veidrorith killed and replaced Alyndra."The Rogues Gallery"
Lelia's roguish compatriots, most who as of yet have preferred to remain with names unknown to those outside their little group. They consist of Findex (Copper Dragonborn arcane trickster), an Aarth/Bearfolk (thief), an Underdark Human (scout), and a Tabaxi/Catfolk (soulknife). With the recent declarations of war, the Aarth and Tabaxi members have both left the academy to return to their homes (Dunhaar Free State and the Ixlan Republic, respectively). So, now it is down to just Findex and Abraham Do'sek, the human. Later scrying revealed the Tabaxi to have been the one that stole the sending stone that Leila shared with Findex.Tin'trak Whilvak
Male Kenku bard who was the party's upperclassman peer mentor at the start of the year (up until Glacier was assigned to them). Has been a bit of a slacker in his prior years at the academy (has already been surpassed in level by the party he's mentoring by a fairly significant margin) and is known to party a bit hard on the weekend with his druid buddy.Thurix (the Unlucky)
Male Lizardfolk wizard who served for several years at the Dynskogar settlement under the academy's Indentured Adventurer's Program. With notourously poor constitution, he has been stuck in a cycle of debt from serving as an adventurer, getting killed and then resurrected, thus being even more in debt. After serving as the party's companion and nearly dying from exhaustion, was been reassigned to a confidential appointment, which has since been revealed to be at flying city construction city. This appointment was later revealed (after discussions with Kal and Vesh on the details of the construction of the flying city) to have been a one year contact as a polymorphed laborer for full forgiveness of his debt. And so, he turned into (via True Polymorph, which was given as a scroll to cast on himself) a Sapphire Drake, a wingless dragon-like creature capable of remarkable feats of tunneling through and psionically molding earth. It is unclear whether he will choose to keep this (much more robust) altered form at the end of the contract, or return to his very-poor-constitution original form to regain his wizardly abilities.Uza
Kobold wizard (divination) / rogue (assassin) who works as a fixer for Zedaar Ravomorn. She was the one tasked with clandestinely obtaining a blood sample from Leila when Zedaar had urgent need of the anti-curse against the witch Kiki's magic. She had a troubled past (which included her time as a student at the Torrentha Academy) which she has separated herself from after faking her own death and taking on a new identity. The details of that past are as yet unknown to the party, but it is strongly implied that she was not originally a kobold, at the very least.Val
Young amethyst dragon who works as a librarian of sorts within the deepest portion of Audrarith's and Jadvigal's lair. She was formerly a simulacrum of Audrarith by the name of Avalanche, having used Asta's ritual to adopt this new non-simulacra identity for herself. She was totally content with her role and station assisting Audrarith in her library-lair, and wished to keep on doing that for as long as it made sense. And so, she decided to remain an amethyst dragon (being willing to give up the adventurer levels to do so). Given that she is roughly 50 years of age (carrying over from her time as a simulacrum), she will likely need to retire from this role in a few decades to go seek a hoard of her own in time to become an adult dragon. This is also critical in her case, as Asta's ritual was not yet improved from its original form (that left the True Polymorph dispellable) for her, so, like Asta, she needs the draconic Apeigo Kylanti to make the form truly permanent.Prof. Valanthe
A former faculty member of the School of Enchantment. In her long Elven lifespan, she has seen much of the academy's history and attained much skill and prestige, but despite that, there is vast knowledge of the academy withheld from her by the dragons Audrarith and Jadvigal. And so, she has resorted to more covert means in recent years to obtain such knowledge for herself. With Voris's conspicuous return to the Academy apart from his party, was found out, and has been "reassigned."
Show spoiler
Her "reassignment" was being contained within a cell that blocked entry/exit (even via teleportation or polymorph), and being required to use all her high level spells each day on the spell Create Greater Steed, to craft the dragonnels the Academy has had a strong uptick in demand for. As a part of the bargain, after her term of service was done, she was to have the chance to Plane Shift to the divine realm of Archive, to once and for all obtain the knowledge she so desperately craved (even if it was a one-way trip).
Vartox
The cannibalistic ancient white dragon of the polar islands southwest of Oketh, who has gradually claimed and conquered territory from the dragons of the southern Frozen Kingdoms. He appeared to be a low monitoring priority potential anomaly identified by the Sanctuary Console. Is rumored to derive some magical abilities from the dragons he consumes. He is a chosen of Tiamat, with the epitath "The One Who Consumes."Veidrorith
Blue dragon, daughter of Iymrith, and mother of Audrarith, Devesaerith, and their brothers, she was known (in this world) to have died as an adult dragon. Her burial site was seen by the crew of the Gentle Night in the corridors beyond the central hall of Old Gri's lair. Following the death of her mate, Old Gri, she was brought back from the dead (by as of yet unconfirmed means, but Devesaerith's involvement is suscpected) as an undead dracolich. With a particularly effective set of magical abilities around shapechanger imitation and necromancy, she killed and took the place of Alyndra Autumnlight of the Elven Triumvirate, thus making all three members draconic imposters of one sort or another. This deception was discovered by Hypatia by means of the Dream spell. Upon the killing of Alethramach, she was seemingly alerted somehow, and instead of meeting up with the party (in response to very enticing and convincing offers), continued to keep up the "Alyndra" ruse, claim a coup attempt was underway, and flee the city for safety (to head to Tydoth to set up a government-in-exile).Voris Ravomorn
Male blue dragonborn wizard (order of scribes), former member of Fiona's party. Comes from a family of financiers who were originally based in Ixlyria (with the business being led by his father, Zedaar), and never hesitates to flaunt his wealth and prestige. Was recruited by Professor Valanthe to gather intel during the mission to the elemental rift (which was divulged by him to the party in a drunken stupor). His slip-ups on that mission resulted in a "voluntary" withdrawal from the Academy to instead study spellcraft with private tutors back in the capitol (later relocated to Temisrane alongside his family's business).

When the witch Kiki confronted Zedaar and found him to be immune to her curses, she promised "three-fold retribution upon his kin". With Voris being one of Zedaar's three children, he ended up as one of the three targets of Kiki's wrath, thus receiving a powerful curse (similar to the one Leila's mother received many years ago).
