Aledia Firetwist Character in Toriel | World Anvil

Aledia Firetwist

"why be a servant, when one can be a master?"
— Aledia Firetwist
Lady Aledia is one of the two queens of the Summer Court sharing this title with Cassandra Sunray. She was once a paladin, that had sworn an oath of the ancients. Aledia however became disillusioned with her faith the Great Extinction, and spent the following years honing her martial prowess as she had sworn to not let Human repeat a similar mistake.

Characteristics

Mental traits

As a paladin, Aledia was devout, faithful, and pious. She took pride in her role as a preserver of life and was content, guided by her King, and Corellon. Though not disparaging of other races, Aledia prioritized her own people's well-being, and she was worried of the human's action.   Aledia was feeling guilty for the great extinction, and feeling dispassionate for Corellon. She believed that Corellon could have prevented this. Vengeful, Liadrin reinvented herself as a warrior, and dedicated her life to protecting the elves in the Feywild.   Though ruthless in battle and possessing an intense hatred for humans, Liadrin is not without mercy. She is a pragmatist who sees no value in excessive cruelty or brutality.

History

Rise as an Archfey

Aledia was raised on the Prime material realm by a priest of Corellon, whose tutelage first inspired her passion for the god.   After the great extinction, the elves retreated to the Feywild. Corellon himself was leading them to their homeland, but Aledia knew this could have been prevented if the elves had not trusted the humans.   With her king dead due to the cataclysmic event, Aledia was looked upon by the elve to lead them, ad so she did, as they got back to the feywild, Aledia was leading the elves. She spent countless days healing the wounded and tending to those in help, but as she was running around helping her people, she couldn't help but think Corellon hadn't done enough, that he could have prevented this, that she could have prevented this if only she had spoken out loud.   Wracked with guilt, Aledia refused to use her paladin power now. Thankfully, her martial prowess alone were enough to defend her people. Five years later, Aledia still struggled with the guilt she felt for that faithful day; guilt for failing to protect her country, her brethren, her mentor; guilt for not dying herself.   The elves had spent this time organizing themselves, setling in their new home, while Aledia was busy defending them, she could not believe what was forming behind her, a place she could call home again.   Vowing to protect her people from similar mistake, and as their leader, Aledia ascended to the status of archfey alongside the already present Cassandra.

Two queens

When Aledia Firetwist arrived in Aechivia with legions of elves seeking refuge from the impending great extinction, Cassandra viewed it as an unwelcome burden. Aledia assumed leadership, organizing the elves, while Cassandra observed her with interest. The two eventually met and formed an unexpected friendship.   As Aledia grew frustrated with Cassandra's inaction, she challenged her to a duel for control of the summer court. However, the confrontation turned into a sensual encounter, and instead of a decisive victor, the two made a pact. They agreed to co-rule the summer court, their lives forever intertwined—should one perish, so would the other.

Enterainement

After centuries, even millennia, of co-ruling the elves of the summer court alongside Cassandra, the Archfey Aledia finds solace in occasional entertainment. Each year, a portal in Aechivia opens, connecting the capital to Megima, allowing Aledia to gather news from the material plane. Amidst this, whispers of rebellion reach her ears.   Rebels implore Aledia for direct involvement in the Elven Rebellion, but she dismisses their pleas, deeming it a potential threat to her people. However, fueled by her deep-seated disdain for humans, Aledia secretly wishes to aid the rebels. When a group of adventurers enters her realm seeking information, she sees an opportunity to further her cryptic agenda.   Upon meeting Queen Aledia, negotiations do not initially favor the adventurers. Aledia seeks entertainment, and even if she want to help the rebels, she don't want to make this easy for them, and the party offers little that she desires in exchange for the critical information they seek. Despite being welcomed as guests within the castle, they realize the need for a better offer.   During the second meeting with Aledia, the urgency of Nep's curse is revealed. Aledia discloses that the curse is deadly and imposes a Time limit on the Tiefling's life. Faced with the gravity of the situation, the party strikes a deal: in exchange for learning the secret of portal manipulation and curing Nep's curse, Marilith agrees to give her first child to the Summer Court, and Nep pledges to become a fey in service to the court as ordered. The terms are set, and the adventurers prepare for their return to the material plane. Aledia assures them that there will be no time warp as they cross back.

Forbidden Fight

As the adventurer ventured into the Elemental Plane of Fire, Alendia knew they disrupted the plans of the rebels, and the help they were supposed to provide to burn Tana's empire turned into an obstacle on the rebels plans.   As the adventurers crossed back to the material plane, Aledia drew the tiefling under her command: Nep. Disoriented and perturbed, Nep found herself in the presence of her queen. She explained that she was aware of the rebels' plan, finding it amusing and entertaining. While lacking specific details, she had a clear picture of how events might unfold and expressed their desire to witness this future unfold. Additionally, the queen believed that the elves should be freed.   Nep received a direct order not to interfere with the rebels
Do not meddle in the affairs of the rebels, for their flames burn brightly, and their torches are held high.
— Aledia Firetwist
Initially resistant to this directive, Nep was reminded by the queen that betrayal would trigger the curse dooming her to a certain death. Reluctantly, she accepted the order, realizing the consequences of defying her fey monarch.   As the conversation concluded, Nep was sent back to the material plane, alone with her weapon. She found herself facing living, dangerous plants—a reminder of the curse that bound her fate should she betray the fey.

Bitter end

The day following the coronation of Galad Ithil as the king of the Kingdom -o Qwir, Nep approached the newly appointed elven king to request a favor – to be transported to the Feywild using Megima's portal to Aechivia. Driven by a desire for a final vengeance, Nep, weakened by the curse withering her, consumed potions and medicine to strengthen herself before entering Aechivia.   Determined no one dared to stop the heroes who fought and won countless battles. Even the Summer Watch, intimidated by Nep's presence allowed her to find their queens.   Upon arriving at the Nighthold, Nep faced the two queens, Aledia and Cassandra. They were aware of the tiefling arrival and ready to face her. They exchanged a few words, arguing with Nep about the curse and the betrayal, as each side thought it had been betrayed by the other.   Unable to reach a peaceful agreement, A fight was engaged, the archfey gaining the upper hand in the fight as their bond allowed them to work with each other.   But Nep ripped the necklace of firebeads on her neck and threw it at Aledia who was invisible. Turning the odds in her favor as Aledia was now visible again. However, this caused the main tower of the Nighthold to start to tip and collapse, debris making the battlefield more and more dangerous, forcing the fighters to escape outside.   Aledia used this opportunity to ambush Nep, gaining the upper hand again, as Nep yelled "stop" and Cassandra vouched to talk.   Cassandra offered Nep a deal, to abandon her life of fight in exchange for her protection, of both Aledia and the curse, but Nep would not live a life without the sword, and refused the offer, facing Aledia in a final battle.   Aledia, faster managed to kill Nep before she was killed, or so she thought, a magical Tattoo on Nep's skin allowing her to cling to life, just enough for her to push into Aledia's defense and kill her.
