Chieftain

Leader of the Skyrunner Tribe

The Tauren chieftains are elder Tauren warriors that lead their tribes in daily life as well as in battle. Ceremoniously decked with the ancient totems of their tribes, chiefs uphold the honor and simplicity of Tauren culture. When roused by battle, the gigantic chiefs employ enormous war blades that are capable of tearing through solid trees with one mighty swipe. -Wowpedia

Among the Skyrunner Tribe the Chieftain is the singular leader and representative of their people. They are renown for their skill in combat, flight, and diplomacy. Traditionally the Chieftain is an individual from the original founder of the tribe roughly 1200 years ago. This unbroken bloodline has persisted as a testament to the strength of the Skyrunner people. Focused on the wellbeing of their Tribe, Chieftains have a great deal resting on their shoulders and they will often look to the members of their Spirit and War counsel for assistance before making a choice though seeking their wisdom is not always done nor is it required.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

A Chieftain can be removed or replaced under very few circumstances.

If they have proven to be incompetent through a source outside of the individual such as madness, age, sickness, or mental or physical capacity they may be removed by consensus of the Councilors. In this case, the person is removed for the good of the Tribe as well as their own well being and can be rehabilitated or offered other work within the Tribe as deemed fitting. This unfortunate reality is often seen among the Tribe as a necessary evil and the individual removed is often viewed with sad respect for their service.

If a chieftain, under their own will and power, has turned the Tribe down a path that is not congruent with the ideals of the Tribe, or has turned against their own people they can be removed by violence. Some times this might mean a secret coup or rebellion to remove power from the individual in question but more often than not a ceremonial fight called Ichnee-Ta'lo. Which is similar to the Orcish Mak'Rogahn and Mak'gora. The removal of a Chieftain in this manner usually results in the individual being scorned in memory. If they live, which can happen should the challenger prove merciful, the former chieftain is exiled from all Skyrunner Tribe lands and holdings.

In both cases a new Chieftain is chosen by the Council members. Usually, a member of the former Chieftain's bloodline but in the absence of this another may be chosen from the ranks of the Councilors and Sky-Reavers.
