It happens when an unborn child is developing inside the mother, during this time any magic that get into contact with the child will be absorbed as they continue to be developed the magic will affect a certain part of the child and it will been seen when the child is born.

Causes

It often involves an unborn child having interactions with some source of magic often being a magical source for a certain period. This can come from magic from an individual's bloodline or just a natural source of magic that is exposed. Once exposed to the developing child, pieces of it will gradually become a part of the child and alter them.

Symptoms

This can be seen through several types of distinct features that can show what type of magic resonated with them, such as eyes, hair, body, and skin tone. What forms of mutations will occur are considered unpredictable at best, unless certain types of magic are active in the development that can narrow down the possible outcomes.

Sequela

Each body takes magic differently than others and it could cause more harm to the host than good. With those able to use magic, it can cause their power to be more powerful than an average caster. It might have psychological effects as well by those around them as it will make them stand out from others and will be treated differently by them.

It often starts in unborn children as they are developing as they come in contact with magic from their mothers.

Prevention

There is no prevention to magic since it is a cosmic power that cannot be held a bay, but if one were to avoided being in contact with magic and away from a pregnant woman then the child should be normal.

Epidemiology

Unless you and the rest of your settlement are somewhere near a large source of magical energy or have some of its population with some magic running through their veins, it will not affect any unborn children. It is entirely genetic and cannot be stopped.

History

Oddities of Magic

Magic or the Arcane is otherworldly power that cannot be fully explained nor properly controlled due to its unpredictability. One of its many abilities is the ability to alter living things with it to make them come out entirely different than they look almost unnatural so to speak. As genetic traits that seem scientifically impossible to show up in a species like they were nothing. The same can be said for the many races that exist in the world, however, due to these physical mutations they are granted certain lengths of magic power depending on what they are born with. Though it is unpredictable to say what magical traits they will be born with as with magic it is always the role of the dice on what someone will get. Once they do receive their abilities they will be able to achieve feats that are not possible by natural means and they will stand out like a sore thumb. However, this doesn't mean that they can cast spells as a standard spell caster as the magic mutated into them rather than developing a Source Arcana, leaving them with only the power that is born with. This does not mean it is not possible either as they have been recorded that those born with these traits can use them as long as they properly developed their magic. Though it often takes time for those born with these powers to properly use them or they might be able to use them at an early age trying to understand what they are. Causing them to be afraid and feel ostracized by their community if they do not properly understand their mutations. But once they have a good grasp of what they are born with they can tap into the powers that they have been granted.

Isolation Through Difference

It is not easy being different in a society, it doesn't help either if you have physical alterations that can be visibly seen either. Those who look different will always be treated differently no matter how hard they try to fit in. That is often the case for those who a changed by the magic that has bonded with them. It is something that cannot be avoided as much as they try to ignore the fact that it is a part of them. While some are more accepting of these individuals and allow them to have their place in society, most are not that lucky and are given that chance. Leading them to have some uncomfortable lives in the process and will try to make their own lives when they can least know some comfort in their lives. Leading them to wander to find someplace to call home, or seek out their kind as kindred spirits. But some will often use their powers to make a living for themselves to at least earn a living as much as they can. Though it might not be as comfortable as they might want to as they will always wander and fight to survive for as long as possible leading some to resent the world around them and lead them down a dark path. The mind can only take so much stress until it finally breaks under the pressure that it forced upon it.

Cultural Reception

Across the world, people have different options on how these individuals play a part in everyday society varying from the accepted oddity to the unholy creation of magic that must be destroyed. However, some also wish to use the powers of their individuals for their agendas and purposes as they should not be discarded as if they were not worth anything. Then finally some revere them as being destined to bring change or salvation to those who follow them and are impeded into their culture one way or another.

Types

There are four likely outcomes when the child is born they will either have distinct eyes, skin, hair, or a random hybrid feature. Which so into these categories. Some can even get more than one character when they are born.

Second Sight: Magic that is infused into the eyes of an individual, the effect will vary by color, but will allow them to gain certain abilities with their sight that only they can use.

Fel Skin: Magic that distinctly causes one skin to be permanently altered to a distinct color. This skin often grants benefits of resistance to certain forms of elements that lessen the likely hood of being harmed by them.

Fae Hair: Hair that is infused by magic that gives it a variety of colors. Having this type of hair will grant them certain properties that can be used to benefit them greatly.

Chimera Morphing: This condition often refers to chimeras, creatures that are created through magic by mixing different animals. This is because an individual born this will have different animal parts no common with their species along with other traits from it.
