Kurima (kʊˈriːmɑː)
Kurima is a small island in the Sabaen Archipelago, located a little southwest of the larger island of Qutra. It is not heavily populated, with only a single fishing village named Al-Kuri located on the southern coast. Al-Kuri's population is mostly of Naga descent, although a group of Chilseongsin refugees settled there centuries ago after the fall of the Kingdom of Seomna. Chilseongsin traits are common among the villagers, and they are viewed as semi-foreign by the Naga of Qutra. The villagers tend to keep to themselves and do not welcome outsiders.
Notable Spirits
The Deva of Kurima is known as Aleusfur al Aswad. They do not manifest as a single entity, but can be glimpsed in the movement of birds, most especially the Kurima Sparrow, which is the most common bird on the island. When the sparrows gather in a murmuration, the face of Aleusfur al Aswad becomes visible in the moving cloud of birds. According to local legend, Aleusfur al Aswad is the guardian of a great treasure somewhere on the island, and has a few secret servants among the villagers who assist in this mission.
Geography
Kurima is a rocky island, with a line of hills running down its center. The southern coast is mostly sandy beaches with some rocky areas, while the northern coast is made up of steep cliffs. The highest point on the island is called Jabal Tamud, after a Bamsam of Naga who lived there during the Telmunic Empire.
