Sunda Lighthouse
The Sunda Lighthouse was originally a part of the Ring of Light, but the god of Sunda and his keepers betrayed the mission of the Order of the Lightkeepers, and Order took action to destroy them. Today, the Sunda Lighthouse exists only as a ghost which haunts the island of Salak.
The island of Salak is known for the frequent storms that surround the peak of the volcano at the center of the island. Storms form over the mountain more than three hundred days of the year, and they had a habit of suddenly moving off the mountain and out to sea. They caused many shipwrecks over the years before the building of the Sunda Lighthouse, and the inhabitants of the island were known to collect the valuables from the ships that wrecked upon their shores. In the years after the construction of the lighthouse, the number of shipwrecks went down, as sailors were able to steer clear of the dangerous rocks offshore. But then something happened, and the number of shipwreck went dramatically up again. Eventually, it was discovered the the people of Salak had successfully redirected the purpose of the god of the Lighthouse to their own aid. The bounty of the shipwrecks had been a major support of the local economy, and without it they were suffering. The god of Sunda responded to their prayers, and began to manipulate the storms directly, deliberately creating shipwrecks to benefit its worshippers.
The response from the Lightkeepers was complete condemnation. They gathered in force to destroy the lighthouse and its god, with the support of the Malikate of Saba which rules the island. The Salak islanders resisted, and many were killed in the conflict that followed. The remainder were removed from the island and relocated to Saba, upon the orders of the Malika of Saba. The Lightkeepers threw down the lighthouse, and cast the stones into the sea.
But gods do not die easily, and the god of Sunda has not yet relinquished its hold on the area. While it is dead, the ghost of the lighthouse appears whenever a storm comes down the mountain at night. It is considered an omen of certain doom to see the ghost of Sunda Lighthouse's eerie green lantern, and many ships that have glimpsed it have been wrecked on the abandoned shores of Salak. Ships have taken to avoiding the island entirely, in order to reduce the chance of encountering the vengeful spirit of the lighthouse. In the years since it first appeared, the Sunda Lighthouse has moved locations several times, and is even appearing out at sea near the island, as if it is beginning to hunt for the ships that no longer sail nearby. The Lightkeepers have not yet decided what to do about the angry ghost, but debate rages about how to slay the spirit of a dead god.
