Ilven's Return and Machinations

After being consumed by darkness, Ilven has supposedly returned (or never left) and is continuing her efforts to take over Tympi's Forest. She has her Myotlings, the Unblinking Sein, and is experimenting on turning outsiders into Uginot ec Mlet. There seems to be a combination of turning the world against outsiders while also covering the forest in darkness as part of her plan is the destruction of the Mothlight Trees.
Current Event
Daulok 02, 308 - Ilven was freed from the Unblinking Sein thanks to the efforts of the Spiritual Travelers. She collapsed, unconscious, shortly after her freedom was gained so it is unclear what her current mental status is besides unconscious.   This concludes the events of Ilven's Return and Machinations.

Plot points/Scenes

The Spiritual Travelers encountered several altered humans with seeds replacing several joints and organs. These altered commoners (Uginot ec Mlet), were busy logging and seemed to not care that the adventurers had arrived. It wasn't until the Myotling supervisors were attacked that the "loggers" turned on the group and attacked back.   Journals explained the name of the creatures, the experiments involved, that myotlings cannot harm the mothlight trees themselves, that Ilven is involved, and that they are working to clear out the surrounding area to see if that makes damaging the mothlight tree any easier.   The Spiritual Travelers also encountered to Myotling Refugees inside The Hidden Village of Mothlights. One of them barely had the courage to speak and was able to provide some more information about what they had seen in Thera Relovut.   A Refugee's Tale
Some weird looking mortals were brought into camp, they seemed to be treated like honored guests and were just chatting with their captors about their hobbies or jobs! But they were led into a tent, and while they were still laughing and talking well…the other sounds that escaped were quite shocking. Chanting, cutting, rustling of leaves and …well, the next time we saw those same mortals we knew we needed to get out of there and get back home as soon as possible. Someone has to do something to stop them!   “Their limbs were all cut open, hollowed out, we could see that their bones had been broken and placed back inside in …unusual ways. Their chests were also cut open, certain pieces were taken out, organs? More bones? Some were put back in like the ones in their limbs, and more different sized seeds were put inside. Some of them were the size of the removed organs, and some had already started to grow roots and sprout…it looked like these roots were starting to wrap around the bones and organs inside, pulling them in different directions. I don’t know what they’ll be like when they finish growing, but that sight alone confirmed that we needed to distance ourselves from what they have planned.”

Namina communed with a Spirit for more information.   "Her robe is made of silk, similar in style to a kimono and the pattern on it is abstract but reminiscent of a pond full of different fish and plant life. She’s holding a large glass bell in one hand as she leans comfortably as if on an unseen sofa. Her other hand is positioned daintily beneath her chin. She speaks and each word feels as if it is coming from her, the bell and from you. One speaking slowly, gently, with great care and compassion, the other ringing out in time and the last strangely confident, insightful, intuitive. It all matches in harmony, and as she begins to answer your questions, the wax dripping from the still lit candles is notably darker than the soft yellow-white wax or animal fat they were made of."   A Spirit's Answer
“The spirit we speak of was once part of a much larger picture. It sat in harmony with the darkness of the world, another shadow that watches and listens, created only when the light happens to want it to exist. It was neither content nor upset about its existence, it had no desires or wants…and we think it still doesn’t, but it crawled out. It broke free. It is but a fraction of a being beyond anyone’s comprehension, though we all know and understand them as the land we walk upon.”   “We think some of it is scared. It is a frightening creature itself, but we think that it is separated and doing things it is not used to. If we had a way to return it to its whole, then it would stop bothering us, and maybe it would even leave behind some people it took? Though, to be safe, we’d recommend separating them from it first.”   “They are in harmony now. They are as much each other as they are a new creation and themselves. Separating them will take a great amount of effort, though if we can communicate with us in this way maybe we can meditate and commune with the Unblinking Sein as it were? Perhaps keep it separated from the rest of itself while finding a way to get the talisman we are making on Ilven would be the way. Though, then we would need to perhaps communicate with Ilven as well to remind her of herself. We believe in us, that we can do what we have set out to do. Have faith, our new friend.”

Kaswink, Agave and Hysteria went to visit the hags.   "There’s an imposing, menacing, bigger-than-the-others hut towards the center of town. Tusks, horns, bones, skulls, all sorts of trophies cover the outside of the house. Two massive tusks are on either side of the entrance with an immense horn protruding from the center above it. It looks like the place you might meet a certain hag empress that Tympi and Ilven have both mentioned.   If you pay Simol a visit she’ll thank you for finding Tympi and getting her home. If you are there to discuss a potential ally-ship and to warn her of Ilven, then she’ll laugh…"   Simol's Insight
“Ilven? I will not join you in this fight, but I will thank you for the warning and provide some light. She … will be stopped. When I helped her many, many years ago, when I last held her and we shared drinks and smoke, I knew that she was doomed to fail. You will defeat her, there is no question you will prevail, but it will be a hard fight, and you may not all make it out alive or be a pretty sight. Rest easy knowing the forest will be safe, and that in due time maybe we will all share a Drink.”   “In regards to Tympi… I hope she is okay. Have you had any weird dreams lately? I could provide some more information about this as well.”   If you trust her with confirmation of these dreams she would inform you of the following:   “These dreams are not mere surreal adventures…they’re a glimpse at the mind of our dying mutual friend. Each vision is a memory, and you’ll need to perform them to the best of your ability. Though…i think those are only the beginning, the true challenge will be awhile from now, as she struggles with her last breaths and last thoughts against a sheet of oil that would hope to drown her.”

The Spiritual Travelers have spent some time collecting ingredients, traveling the forest and doing what they can to research Ilven, The Unblinking Sein, and prepare for the fight to come.   They've managed to gather most of the ingredients and information, though they are preparing to either head to Drimures to get some ash from a burnt building or back to Thera Relovut to free some potential refugees and get some grime from a stone cellar.
Nurend 40, 308
The Spiritual Travelers laid the town of Drimures to rest and freed Arjan of his Torment. In doing so, they also acquired some Ash from a Burned Building.

The gang has decided to travel to the Thera Relovut next to free any refugees/prisoners they might meet and to get the Grime from a Dark Grey Cellar...   They have a plan to use Agave's magical abilities to teleport directly into the prison, grab who and what they can, then teleport back out. Agave will go in with Kaswink, or maybe someone else will equip the item that allows Agave to teleport, perhaps Hysteria? The two on the "teleport team" will retrieve what they can and teleport back to base, so that the refugees and prisoners don't have to walk through the dangerous swamp while fleeing Ilven.   The rest of the party will be waiting outside Thera Relovut, keeping an eye on things and acting as backup if anything goes wrong. Agave will either need to teleport back to this group to guide them through the swamp again, or will be with them already and just guide them back after a signal is received.

The plan went off pretty well, several prisoners and refugees were saved including a Murid that might know Agave, a middle-aged human woman, an old gnome, two human tourists that were filled with vines but cured, and two myotlings (one of which was a member of Ilven's Court).   It was discovered, because of this, that the light from Tympi's Lantern seems to cure the people that have been corrupted with these vines. However, while they are being cured they behave in strange ways and speak as if they are in another place or time.   The Spiritual Travelers also visited Quince at the Gate Camp to confront him about the dangerous situation he has put these tourists in and about Ilven taking people. He seemed confused and insisted that it could've been prevented with proper information from his expedition team. The conversation regarding Ilven was cut short, however, as the Gate exploded.
Daulok 02, 308
After waking up from an encounter with a Whendigo, the Spiritual Travelers found themselves around a month in the future as the wintry weather suggested. The sound of logging could be heard nearby, and they found themselves having to deal with not only several Uginot ec Mlet loggers, but a group of Myotlings and the death of Hysteria.   They were able to defeat these myotlings without killing any of the corrupted tourists, and they have plans to cure them of their afflictions before finding their family/tourist group somewhere in this world.   It seems that Ilven is moving closer to their camp, clearing out the forest faster than ever and making some upgrades on these corrupted tourists to make them more efficient. It is unclear how many tourists have been transformed at this point, but one thing is certain: Ilven needs to be stopped as soon as possible.
The Spiritual Travelers were able to capture a Myotling later on this same day. He provided some information about Ilven's goals and seemed unwilling to accept that what he was saying was kinda messed up. He firmly believed that everything Ilven said must be true and that the trees, especially the Mothlight trees, MUST be corrupted. He eventually broke, weeping as he begged to know why Ilven was like this now.   The group of adventures are currently on their way to stop Ilven.
  1. Get to Ilven
  2. Enter a trance to communicate with her and make her corporeal enough to equip the talisman
  3. Equip the talisman on Ilven
  4. Continue communicating with Ilven while separating her from The Unblinking Sein
Additional steps include Having a Tea Party and including some Anti-fear treats and Ilven Favorites to help her remember who she is while fighting this fear. Namina will need to be kept alive, and Ilven will also need to be kept safe as well. Despite this, Ilven may also need to be attacked to some degree to prevent her from stopping Namina, and several Myotlings along with the Unblinking Sein will be involved as well. It'll be a tricky situation.

Structure

Exposition

Tympi's sister, Ilven, never felt trusted or listened to by her all-important sister or Tympi's other advisors. However, the information she possessed and was uniquely capable of obtaining seemed incredibly important to her. With the help of her friend Simol, she was able to interpret a rather devastating prophecy she discovered.   This prophecy, inscribed on The Statue at Thera Relovut, was carefully hidden away from the world as Ilven built her first camp. At some point, perhaps from Simol or just on her own, Ilven acquired a jar of darkness which contained the dark spirit known as The Unblinking Sein. She released this spirit, supposedly under her control, to capture Tympi and gain control of the forest to prevent outsiders from coming in.   Fifty years later, the Spiritual Travelers arrived in the Spirit World and eventually met Ilven. She willingly explained what she did to Tympi was to save the forest from her naivety and overly-trusting nature. Were Tympi to remain the forest would be in danger if a large number of outsiders arrived, according to Ilven anyways. As she explained this and offered up the jar containing her sister, Ilven was suddenly covered in the same darkness that took her sister. The Spiritual Travelers were blinded prior to this for one reason or another, but when Myotling guards entered the tent to see what was happening Ilven was supposedly gone. The group of adventurers were arrested, but made a daring escape from this camp and the surrounding swamp, Pluarsh ec Relovut.
Quince, an eccentric halfling man with an amount of funding from Probono Auttomations, was still outside the Spirit World trying to compile data while working on the permanent gate to the Spirit World. The impending influx of outsiders was worrisome for the Spiritual Travelers, and they began to distance themselves from this proprietor. The last communication between the two parties was on Nurend 15, 308 . He requested they find a material to form a stable connection between the Spirit World and the material plane, Taranel. The Spiritual Travelers chose to ignore this and continued with their escape.   Several days later they were thanked for their hard work and informed that the permanent gate was a success. During this time, they were in the middle of getting Tympi home after freeing her from her jar, and they chose to not respond to this message but listened to the words with great concern. Tympi seemed unconcerned with the presence of outsiders and was more worried about how the Spirit World might affect Taranel, rather than the other way around. Either way, tourists were going to start pouring in.

Components

Goals

Research   Issue Warnings/Gather Allies
  • The Mothlings need to be warned about this! (Complete)
    • The Mothlings can also spread word of Ilven and her plans through the forest. Perhaps they could use some help though.
  • Quince needs to be warned about this, along with his Camp Directors. They might provide some support in the fight against her. (Complete)
  • Simol should also be warned, along with her hags. Perhaps they could even provide some assistance like knowledge or power. (Complete)
  • The people of The Night City of Dorchar and The Daytime Village of Aotri should likely also be warned...though they are just strange manifestations of the sky. Perhaps they'll be fine, but they might be valuable allies just the same. (Completed)
    • There was another reason to go to these cities: Kaswink had a plan to use a piece of each sky to provide a day/night cycle for the underground farm. (Complete)
  • The existence of any Myotling Refugees suggests that there might be more. Maybe sneaking into Thera Relovut to rescue more Myotlings could be worth the trouble. (COMPLETE)
  • Perhaps people outside the forest will also help?
  • There are also plans to find Logren, The Mantis Knight.
