Fremgraviate of Liradsromn
The Fremgraviate of Liradsromn is a longstanding member of the Blazennian Empire. Although not a founding constituent, the Fremgraviate was formed in 1259 after the defeat of the Kingdom of Fraspika, following the terms of the Imperial Treaty between the Blazennian Empire and Telrai settlers. Ever since, the Fremgraviate has been the foremost representative of the Empire's 1.5 million Telrai citizens.
History
The Fremgraviate of Liradsromn owes its existence to the once-mighty Khanate of Clesentia. The Khanate, which rolled over much of southern and central Telgren, happened to reach its peak as Telrai seafarers explored along the southern coast and established trade relations with the local peoples. Inspired by the fight against the slaveholding Clesentians, a number of these Telrai joined the forces of the anti-Clesentian coalition, working with the Confederation of Blazennia. While many of these soldiers fought for little more than ideals, some received proper payment for their services or were hired as bodyguards and elite troops, owing to their novel and previously unseen fighting prowess.
Following the defeat of the Khanate, the Telrai returned to the coasts of Blazennia and Fraspika and settled down to make a new life for themselves, though some also returned to the islands the had been slowly colonizing. Particularly popular with these Telrai were the coastal woods of peninsular South Fraspika, which was now defunct and therefore projected no power over the Telrai, allowing them to live in peace. Alas, after a few short decades of peace, the Telrai were suddenly attacked by forces of the Kingdom of Fraspika, whose mad king considered them squatters on his rightful land and was determined to evict them. Enraged the Telrai responded by fighting a fierce war against those who attacked them.
This violence was seen with horror by many in Fraspika, and the situation was also being closely monitored by the young Blazennian Empire, which likewise saw the assault on the Telrai settlers as unjust. To attack these brave people who had played a major role in liberating both Fraspika and Blazennia from the rule of the Centaur menace was clearly cruel, and the Blazennians would not stand for it. Liaisons and diplomatic missions were sent by both the Blazennian Empire and the Telrai communities of the gulf in order to coordinate a response, all while the Telrai fighters were slowly pushed from of their hideouts. Although the wheels of bureaucracy would turn slowly, after two years a comprehensive treaty between the Telrai colonists and the Blazennian Empire was finally established, and war loomed on the horizon.
Although usually remembered more for its use as a cassus belli to invade the Kingdom of Fraspika, the Imperial Treaty was a truly remarkable document, marking the second nonhuman race the Blazennians had reached out to in friendship. More than a military pact, it was a treaty of alignment which has lasted the nearly 750 years since its signing with remarkably few issues. Its provisions stated that the Telrai people would be granted a swath of territory on the Telgren mainland to rule in perpetuity as thanks for their contributions to the war effort, and that this land would be non-sovereign and under the protection of the Blazennian Empire, but would have special privileges and rights. A second Telrai nation was also established- the Kingdom of Hekahon, a sovereign state located on the islands of the gulf. The Blazennian Empire would formally cede (almost) all islands and claims it possessed in the Gulf of Telgren to this new state, which would in return defend the waters of the gulf from pirates and other menaces, while benefitting from a permanent alliance with the Imperial seat. Certain islands were omitted from this treaty because they were settled by Telrai who wished to join the Empire or because they were critical strategic points.
After this, the Telrai of Fraspika were seen as veterans of the Clesentian War, and therefore by Blazennian law considered under the protection of the Empire. This is the famous clause which allowed the intervention of Blazennia and their Hekahon allies to defeat Fraspika in detail and establish Liradsromn in the very same woods the Telrai had chosen as their main settlement. From there, Liradsromn was confirmed as the lands granted to the Imperial Telrai, and became the Empire's second Fremgraviate.
Ever since the Blazennian-Fraspikan War, Liradsromn has been one of the most peaceful constituents, largely thanks to its isolation from the others. Nonetheless, it has played a significant role in the Blazennian Empire's history, acting as one of the most reasonable and generally least corrupt members of the Imperial Council since its inception. Liradsromn is the closest constituent of the Blazennian Empire to the southern continent of Ifyrial, and this made Liradsromn a hub for imperial colonization efforts, while the Telrai ethos kept the nation clean of many of the more evil acts, such as slavery. Thanks to their open and honest way of running things, their colony of Silkamot remains one of the most loyal strongholds of the Empire on that continent. Liradsromn also supported the rightful Emperor of Alezar VIII over the usurping Csömbor I, sending troops and other aid to aid the loyalist cause. However, their mighty soldiers were no match for the magic of the usurpers, and the Blazennian Civil War would end in victory for Csömbor. Liradsromn would be forced to bow to Csömbor to keep their council seat and retain what little influence they are allowed to keep- largely out of fear for reprisal against the Telrai of the Empire. Still, Liradsromn has emerged as a choice destination for refugees of the war, being so far from the imperial center and the power projected from it. Joining these refugees from Blazennia, Liradsromn has also become home to the dispossessed of the Hekahoni Civil War, those whose factions failed to make it to the power-sharing agreement which ended the war and who sought a new life elsewhere.
Liradsromn's economy remained stable throughout the Telgren Time of Troubles, although exports would dip. Their main exports continue to be as they always have been- primarily fish and lumber, but also goods such as cloth (from traditional four-armed Telrai looms) as well as other finished goods. Liradsromn's climate is also well-suited from growing wine grapes, and despite the Telrai not being traditional wine-drinkers, they have emerged as a minor player in the market thanks to the efforts of the human minority.
