Saurai
The Saurai are Telrai who have left the island of Numoanu and travelled south to mainland Telgren. They're the first Telrai group to have ventured out from their island, and thus have a wide reach along the coast of Telgren from Valerier to Cloriadme. They also have a major presence along the northern coast of Ifyrial, having settled the region during the 1700s. Saurai are less traditionalist and more open to outsiders than their forefathers, and have become a major trading powerhouse throughout the seas. They have particularly close ties to the Blazennian Empire, which counts many Saurai among its citizens.
The groups considered to be Saurai are the Hekahai, Vietai, Risai, Valarai and Medhiai. The Hekahai primarily populate the islands of Hekahon, the main independent Telrai kingdom. They are the most traditonalist of the Saurai, having retained their independent attitude. Still, they keep close ties with the countries around them, not shying away from trade relations. In contrast, the Vietai dwell primarily in Liradsromn, where most of the imperial Telrai population lives. However, their population can also be found throughout the main coastline of Blazennia, and to some extent inland along the rivers. The Vietai are closely integrated into Blazennia, and are loyal citizens, often speaking at least one of the Blazennian languages (or Fremedhian, depending on where they are in the empire). To the south, in lands mostly colonized by the Hekahai, dwell the Risai. They used to be part of the kingdom but seceded during its devastating civil war. They have been the chief opponents of slavery in the region, refusing to deal in the massive trade of slave orcs from the region and harassing slaving ships. Though close to the Risau, Liradsromn's possessions in the region have not come to share any united culture with the Risai, and remain loyal subjects for the most part. Moving back from Ifyrial, and to the west, one can find the Valarai, who live in and around the Fjallrock, Dennonian, and Alcedina coasts. Finally, in the east, one can find the Medhiai, who have small populations scattered throughout Fremedhia and Cloriadme. They have a very minor presence but remain distinct from most other Saurai groups, while not having moved far enough north to be considered Saerai.
