Kingdom of Hekahon

Hekahon is a Telrai nation present on a group of islands off the coast of the Blazefollk Empire. Hekahon and the Blazennian Empire have a longstanding alliance; in this alliance Hekahon is tasked with keeping the coasts of the Blazennian Empire free from enemy vessels, and therefore maintains a very large navy for their size.

Structure

Hekahon is divided into governances. Each governance is roughly equal in size and the larger islands are divided into several governorships each. Under each governorship are headmen, with each headmen leading a village. Unlike the governorships, headmen are not necessarily equal in power, with certain headmen being almost as powerful as governors due to being leaders of large villages. Upon the death of the king, a council of governors will meet to elect a new king. When a governor dies, the headmen under him or her will do the same. Replacements for dead headmen are directly elected by the people they serve. Often, the children of a previous governor or king will be tapped to do the job, but these dynasties typically only last as long as the family is competent.

History

The first Telrai settlers arrived in what would become Hekahon around 1095 S.C., travelling directly from their home islands. Finding unpopulated islands, they quickly established small trading settlements are became valuable partners with West and South Fraspika. These islands had previously been under the control of Oleandron, but after the Empire's collapse were often raided by Tritons for slaves and taken to other islands under frim Triton control, so they were swiftly depopulated and the remaining settlers fled to the havens of Eldritch Isle (if Eldritch) or Illumendell (if Elven), with most humans scattering. Due to the only strong state remaining in southern Telgren being Fraspika, a land-based nation, nobody claimed the various islands. When the Blazennian Confederation was formed, the Telrai were invited to join, but declined, preferring to stay completely sovereign. However, they took a keen interest in the populations of Telrai living inside Blazefollk lands, the numbers of which were slowly increasing. Following the collapse of West Fraspika, Hekahon intervened in the welfare of their fellow Telrai and after a few years of negotiations signed the Eternal Friendship Treaty. They would then send troops for the first (and last) time, to assist the Blazennian Confederation in their war with the Khanate of Clesentia. The Khanate was unprepared for facing Telrai soldiers and was quickly destroyed, especially with the help of High Jarl Øldar, the Fierce, and his expatriates. After this event, the Telrai on the islands organized themelves into their present structure, a blend between human and traditional Telrai methods of governance. From there, the Kingdom of Hekahon would perform its duties as stipulated in the treaty to protect the coasts of the Blazefollk Empire. Hekahon would also be the site of the first colonial expeditions to Ifyrial, and has strong connections to the Telrai there. Hekahon also has close ties with the Archelin and Ifyrialn community of Telrai, as many of them were originally from Hekahon, having moved permanently to those continents during the Time of Troubles.
For Hekahon, the time of troubles manifested as a multi-faceted civil war which ended inconclusively in a power-sharing agreement. The last of these civil war claimants currently leads Hekahon, but at 118, he is sure to die quite soon.
