Landgraviate of Sofmargand

The Landgraviate of Sofmargand is one of the oldest states within the Blazennian Empire. Sofmargand was a county under Rhionion following the collapse of South Fraspika. However, Varimar Fireblood, being heirless was unable to keep Rhionion together after his death, so Sofmargand (and Rhionion's other land) were separated. As the most powerful post-Rhionion state, they were given the title of Landgrave, which soon became worthless, though they eventually recieved a seat on the Imperial Council thanks to this. Sofmargand's poorly defined border with Sochvalar became a major issue, as Sochvalar claimed the land up to the river while Sofmargand claimed river was firmly within their lands. During the reaign of Varimar, Sochvalar was too scared to press their claim, but skirmishes over the region waged inconclusively for centuries over the lands.
Besides their dispute with Sochvalar, Sofmargand inherited relatively calm borders since the tribes of the region had long since been pacified by South Fraspika. However, they have always been relatively sparely settled, as most of these tribes had small, migratory populations. Over time, however, Sofmargand has grown into an agricultural powerhouse, with the landed nobility holding vast tracts of profitable farmland and thus excess grains. This reliance on agriculture meant that luxery goods were not usually produced in Sofmargand, especially considering their ease of shipping due to Sofmargand's control over two rivers. As the traditional farmers and herders dominated much of the countryside. Sofmargand's nobility became rather powerful due to this, and there is no balance of power in the country.
Going into the Blazennian civil war, Sofmargand sided with Emberkeep in order to counter the rising power of the Kingdom of Mäzgyrazrfold and to fight their rival of Sochvalar, a backer of Mäzgyrazrfold. This proved a poor decision, as they were defeated by Sochvalar in battle. It likely would have gone even worse for them, but their southern border with Linoren saw no conflict as Linoren was busy sacking neutral cities and pursuing wasteful assaults on old lands rather than assisting Sochvalar. Thus, despite losing land to Sochvalar and being stripped of their council seat, they have come out alright from the war.
