Landgraviate of Linoren

The Landgraviate of Linoren is one of the oldest and most prestigious Blazennian constituents, and is the most legitimate successor to South Fraspika, being one of the three duchies formally created after its fall. Linoren at its peak held a number of exclaves throughout the empire, as remnants of the complicated succession laws of South Fraspika. However, over time, its lands have shrunk, leaving it with only the outer Csaishavel delta under its control. Linoren was initially led Leonian dynasty, but they died out in the 1300s and the Landgraviate was taken over by the Azumizen, though reduced in size. During this time, the county of Lyrona (a major exclave) was split off, along with the cities of Desstein and Csaishavel being granted a royal charter. This meant Linoren was heavily reduced in power, and no longer contested the Emperorship as it had under the Leonian. The only Azumizen Emperor was Silas I, who ruled for a single year during the Time of Troubles, and failed to make his mark on the empire.
Linoren has historically gained much of their strength from their control over the mouth and source of the Linorenal river, a major avenue for trade in the Empire. Thus, the loss of Desstein and Csaishavel at the source and mouth, respectively, meant that their monopoly over trade was crushed. Although their capital city of Leona, just across the Linorenal from Desstein, remains a major trading location, Desstein has manged to outcompete it in terms of volume. Linoren's rulers, angered by their continual failure to make headway against the smaller states who worked together to prevent a re-establishment of Linoreni dominane over the river, thus fell into an alliance with the Kingdom of Mäzgyrazrfold, and sided with them against Emberkeep in the Blazennian Civil War.
Although victorious in this war, Linoren certainly did not achieve their goals. Despite invading and looting Desstein during the war, the city was neutral, and so this constituted an illegal annexation, so they were forced to withdraw after the war. They failed to regain Csaishavel or Lyrona, the former being seized by Mäzgyrazrfold, and the latter split between the Landgraviate of Fluencia and the Grand Duchy of Sochvalar. Linoren's ruler, despite being fairly punished for his illegal annexations during the war which distracted the nation from the real military targets, remained rebellious, and was deposed by Emperor Csömbor I in 1998, being replaced by his then 11-year old son under a regency council. It remains to be seen how the boy will run the Landgrave once he takes the throne.
