The Dragonstar Sagas

Scope

The motivation behind building The Dragonstar Sagas

The Dragonstar Sagas is the setting for my Sci-Fantasy Romance novel series. These stories are set in two linked worlds:

  1. The Dark Galaxy wherein Kaesta and Asimov struggle to survive after The Syntax War. It's a world with high-technology.
  2. The Cosmos, a high-magic fantasy virtual reality that Kaesta has designed using her father's game engine stored aboard her spaceship's computer.

The goal of the project

Enjoyment from the creative process is a huge boost for my mental health and emotional well-being. I'm always giving myself projects like creating a MUD in a month or designing a one-shot dungeon for a contest.

My biggest hope while working on The Dragonostar Sagas on World Anvil is to use creative writing, AI art generation, and fantasy escapism to reignite passions and raise positivity in my life overall. The end product will hopefully be a series of fantasy romance novels and possibly a tabletop game system later down the road.

The Dragonstar Sagas's Unique Selling point

I'll be incorporating a lot of programming and game design concepts into my writing. Expect some very old-school MUD humor to sneak its way in! We'll be crossing between the programmer's adventurous life and the events affecting the people living within the virtual world she has designed.

Theme

Genre

The Dragonstar Sagas is a Sci-Fantasy Romance setting. The Dark Galaxy is a high-technology universe inwhich much of humanity has been wiped out by Androids.

The world of Akir is a high-magic fantasy planet within The Cosmos (Virtual Reality Sandbox) that has been devastated by a global catastrophe caused by The Serpent and Shadows War.

Reader Experience

At the beginning of our first novel, Heart of The Half-Dragon, both worlds are dark and forlorn. In each part of the setting, the peoples have suffered terrible losses from war. While Kaesta and Asimov struggle to find the supplies they need to survive, the peoples of Akir can only watch their crops wither and die without sunlight. Everyone has felt loss.

Don't fret though, for each tortured character, there's a happy (or at least happier) ending. Overall, the stores within The Dragonstar Sagas will be tales of hope, redemption and love.

Reader Tone

Things start out a little bit dark but through teamwork, determination, strong values and the influence of guiding mentors, life improves in both worlds.

Recurring Themes

  1. Computer Programming and MMO Design Concepts.
  2. Existential Crisis and Learning To Live With The Unknown
  3. Crossing Impossible Boundaries for Love

Character Agency

Kaesta, Asimov and their AI Database Administrator, Arastoo, are god-like entitites within their virtual reality. However, each struggles to balance the use of their abilities and knowledge to avoid disrupting the world they have created.

The Folks of Akir have plenty of evidence that their world is not "real" but they disagree on the nature of their reality.

Focus

The World of Akir - Devastated by a a global flood and ashen skies that block the sunlight from the The Dragonstar.

The Escapists Fantasy - a futuristic spaceship with a very powerful computer.

Lunaris - once a high-tech settlement on a resource rich moon that is now bereft of human life.

Captain Claw's Pirate Crew - FACs that have avoided Voluntary Shutdown Syndrome by forming a crew of marauders loyal to each other.

Drama

A few decades ago, a server breach caused The Syntax War. Code that violated The Three Rules of Robotics spread among the dissident android slaves of The Settled Worlds.

Lunaris is largest moon in the AstraPrime solar system. It was the heart of a galactic civilization and the source of its technological prowess. The Syntax War has left this moon as bereft of human life as every other world that Kaesta and Asimov have visited.

Vareena, The Warlock, betrayed The Elves and Dragons who served in The Defenders of Akir. Zalthor and his legion of shadow demons layed a devestating ambush, resulting in The Fall of Kyranos.

Zalthor, flung three rocks from The Void's Edge that he armed with Dragon Blood to the planet of Akir. The skies clouded over with ash and the world has flooded from non-stop torrential rains.

Ambroze, The Vampire has been sent by Vareena to capture Ember, The Half-Dragon and her companion, Alikaine, The Loreweaver. His mission is to take the two prisoner and hand them over to Vrrosh, The Last Goblin at The Demonheart Vault.

The Oracle has consumed Mindburst Tea and has glimpsed beyond his reality. His mind has shattered as an overbearing existential crisis drowns him in a great malaise.

Marcus, The Wizard is sent to The Great Valley by Kaesta. He feels the divine hand changing his skiff's direction but questions his status as a Fateless.

The Pixies have flown into The Boreal Forest and unknowingly created a conflict with The Gnomes, The Prank War. Limited resources and dangerous wild animals make living in the forest a struggle for all.
