Lydia Hartunian Character in Tellus | World Anvil

Lydia Hartunian

Lady Lydia Karenin Hartunian, M.B.A.

Lydia Hartunian is the perfect example of a modern woman and entrepreneur. Receiving nothing but the best in education and elocutions lessons, her slight lisp was forced out of her at a young age. As the youngest child of a powerful noble family, she grew up facing a confusing mix of constant criticism and abject apathy.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Lydia is small, but "full of piss and vinegar", and the old folks would have said. She has fire in her eyes, a resting challenge to anyone deigning to look her in the eye.

Body Features

She is plump but not overly so; considered the 'perfect size' for a woman of her times, in the fashion industry. She has many piercings in her ears nose and eyebrows, though all are not in use at the same time, and sometimes none are present at all. She is incredibly flexible, considered 'double jointed' by the hoi polloi in general.

Facial Features

She has the long aquiline nose of her father's side of the family, and the nearly requisite black hair associated with the Hartunian Family. She has 'resting bitch face' something fierce.

Identifying Characteristics

she has a birthmark on her elbow; a large, lonely freckle.

Physical quirks

Her eyes are quite wide apart, which puts some people off in her presence.

Apparel & Accessories

Lydia is always dressed to the nines in a gown and piled wig, with tasteful jewelry apparent in various understated places.

Specialized Equipment

She hides a blowgun with three deadly poison darts in her whalebone corset and hoops. She possesses a Hartunian Signet Ring with her own personal device upon it, and a Crystal Ball of Scrying, a powerful artifact she found in her father's grandfather's belongings.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Growing up as she did, her particular and special emotional wounds were very deep, and parent-centric. She has always had a fantastic relationship with her oldest sibling; brother Dale, who has been off in the capitol learning to be a proper Lord of the The High King's Seat.

Gender Identity

Lydia is a very feminine woman who is quite unafraid to use her natural beauty and charisma to beguile, charm, lie and sleep her way into valuable information; often all in the same night.

Sexuality

Lydia is bisexual, officially, but deep down in a part of her that she has not allowed to surface, she much prefers women to men.

Education

She has received the finest education in the land, from none other than the world famous center for organized higher thought, The Bardic College Campus. She has also been formally trained in elegance and eloquence.

Employment

She is the owner/operator of the TransPax Luxury Coach Company.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Lydia is quite the swordswoman, known as a champion fencer throughout Craysilt. She also holds records at The Bardic College Campus for the pole-vault, most consecutive years as champion Mathlete, and most hearts broken in a single semester.   She can also be generous to a fault with the people she sees as loyal to her. She is very protective of her employees, her few real friends, and her brother Dale Hartunian.

Failures & Embarrassments

Lydia had an unhappy introduction to her femininity, being mercilessly mocked by the boys she had once considered her friends simply because she became beautiful one summer. She is also very cold, unless she is after something, using sex as a tool much more than she does pleasure. She shies away from contact, and is easily aroused to anger and fits of violent rage.   Lydia is quite motivated by peniaphobia1, and it leads her to believe everyone else is, too. This also has the effect of convincing her the poor are very like wild animals in temperament and intellectual capacity.   Lydia's seamstresses and Ladies in Waiting are the best of the best, and her perfumier as well. She is always dressed the best in any given situation, and owns several dozen mirrors that she keeps in strategic places around her home, carriage, skirts, and servants.   Show Spoiler
When Lydia was small, it was discovered she had been killing small animals around the mansion and grounds. She had been cleaning the skulls and spines, and had secreted them in a box hidden under her bed. The ensuing uproar never happened, as it was imperative the scandal be kept out of the ears of the peasants and employees of the Hartunian Family.

TL:DR; She is vain, egotistical, greedy, and mercurial. Also perhaps Show Spoiler

Mental Trauma

Lydia is the product of extreme apathy mired to the very highest expectations, beginning to feel as if anything she ever did would never matter in the greater scheme of things at a punishingly young age. This feeling was only reinforced by her observations of her father's attempts at altruism, which almost always (to her eyes) became corrupted by money or outside interests. She came to regard her father, secretly, as a kindly old fool, rather than the tireless advocate for the people that he fancied himself.   Lydia's brother Dale saved her from a sexual assault when she was still very young, only ten years old. The perpetrators(!) never faced justice, as their families said it was simple youthful jocularity, and her mother could not have cared less about it.   Lydia was kidnapped by an escaping prisoner one night while she was out walking with her ladies at a Craysilt garden park. She remained stiffly appropriate and cordial throughout the entire proceeding; sitting with proper posture and a rock-steady tone of voice as she was hooded and hustled away to a safe house somewhere. In the end, she helped him escape for ten percent of his future profits, which he has kept his end of the bargain on ever since.

Intellectual Characteristics

Lydia is quick witted, calculating, and very cold. Right up until the moment she loses her mind in a fit of rage and angrily thrown dishware.

Morality & Philosophy

Her philosophy is that morality is fluid, unless one is rigidly committed to dying poor and lonely.

Taboos

Hurting children; harming any of her people, in any way, is cause for reprisal from Lydia. Her mood dictates the strength of the lesson.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Lydia is driven to succeed on many levels, not the least of which is proving her father was wrong about so many things.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

She can squeeze the last penny out of almost any situation.

Likes & Dislikes

She is a very big fan of a local narcotic leaf that the woodsfolk chew to calm overwrought emotions.

Virtues & Personality perks

She is loyal, generous to her people, and protective of her assets and friends.

Vices & Personality flaws

She is mercurial, troubled, greedy, easily triggered and exceptionally vain.

Personality Quirks

She has a habit of washing herself many times a day, and each morning she breaks her fast with a single soft boiled chicken egg.

Hygiene

Fastidiously clean.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Lydia has a well cultivated relationship with the various Teamsters Guilds, although her entry into the Merchant and Sailors' Guild has been stymied at every turn, and it it starting to annoy her.

Family Ties

She is a Hartunian! But also, there is plenty of Cotnor blood in there.

Religious Views

Religion is fine if taken in moderation.

Social Aptitude

Lydia is a social savant, of a sort. She can communicate volumes with just a flutter of her eyes.

Mannerisms

Lydia is stiffly formal at almost all times.

Speech

Her lisp was variously beaten and humiliated out of her when she was still young.
