Waycabin Grapeseed Valley Building / Landmark in Tellus | World Anvil

Waycabin Grapeseed Valley

One of the vaunted and well-publicized Waycabins© variously built, purchased, or refurbished, by the Hartunian Family; specifically Lydia Hartunian, who is the owner/operator of the operation. They are all deeply restful, with exotic music, playing softly, seemingly everywhere within the sprawling establishments. Using the science of aromatherapy, Lydia instructed the builders to install hidden atomizers in the rafters of the building. These wonderful Gnomish innovations can change their scent upon command. One need only speak the keyword, and the atomizers in the room you occupy will begin emitting a faint mist, scented just as you described. "Cinnamon", for instance, or "Thyme and Sage". The keywords for the cabins are all different, but truth be told, no one has made changes to the aromatic landscape since the place opened.

Purpose / Function

Grapeseed was built to provide rest and lavish service upon their guests. The Waycabins are each stops along a luxury travel route on everything from trains, to boats, to wagons (usually a beefed-up and luxury-ified Connie). Grapeseed has become a defacto vacation/holiday spot for the staff and crew that work for TPLC™, which works indirectly to Lydia Hartunian's personal advantage and plans. She bathes her loyal workers in luxury and style, here at Grapeseed, and they love her for it.

Hazards & Traps

5427:
  • There is a 12 year old halfling named Artful Hineyhammer who has been sneaking around stealing food to stay alive. He is actually pretty pleasant. The boy was orphaned, parents killed in front of him, so has some post traumatic concerns. The staff have been complaining about it for a week.
The staff will ask any adventurers to help resolve the thefts.
The boy is busiest in the wee hours of the morning; 2AM to 4AM.
  • Grapeseed Valley is the home of the Kingdom's Huntsman, a shadowy and legendary figure among the citizens of Pax. It is a draw, for some, that there is a chance to see him. He hardly ever speaks, even when asked a direct question.
His quarters are strictly off-limits; the entire eastern wing of the building is his, and he has arranged his quarters in a manner that suits him. He has glyphs of warding up everywhere.

Alterations

When the Hartunian Family purchased the building in Fedus of 5426, they mostly just redecorated and installed a pier. This Waycabin© is the one used most by the staff and their families for holidays and vacationing in general. It is a wonderful perk of working for the TPLC™, one pushed by Lydia Hartunian herself. The employees have access to gourmet food and drink, a curated and clean space wherein to play and cavort (as staff people do), and the use of the cabin's small fleet of row boats and canoes.   A second floor kitchen was installed to service the guests on the floor below. Cleverly crafted  dumbwaiters were built to serve the food to real waiters in the dining rooms below. The system works so flawlessly that waiters (at times) will ride the dumbwaiter down to the work floor, or up to the kitchen to be out of sight when they get sick, or tired. The staff vacationing here are known to jump in and help when the full timers at Grapeseed become overwhelmed with exuberant passengers; another perk Lydia Hartunian had counted in her decision to allow them to spend their off days and vacation days here with their immediate families, kids and all.

Architecture

Grapeseed Valley is the classic "manor with generations of additions". The Huntsman bought it, and now, TPLC™ leases it from him. It is, for the most part, post and lintel on wood frames. It boasts a clay roof, and panelled wooden walls stained a rich, dark brown. The starburst of the old Hartunian battle flag grace some inlaid tiles, mainly in the restrooms and outdoor gathering spaces.

Defenses

Well, the Huntsman still lives here! He has a connection with this part of the woods, and is famous for saving many children (who get lost in the dark woods far more often than one would think). He is a grim man, tall and dark, coming and going unseen.

History

Grapeseed Valley is the classic "manor with generations of additions". One could call it "cottage chic", were it not for the whole mansion thing. The Huntsman bought it, and now, TPLC™ leases it from him.

Tourism

This is the place to be; and you can tell because it says so right on the sign! This place is oozing luxury and enticing comfort at every turn. It is also new, so they give attraction booklets to everyone who leaves the property.   The poshest of the posh flit to this perch from Pax around. The exorbitant fees guarantee a curated experience that would be agreeable with any monied individual, couple, or family. There are dry witted butlers in tuxedos, with bright white napkins draped over their shoulder and an armful (really a tray) of whatever it is the customer had just wanted. They are very silent, seemingly coming and going from any direction, at any point on the property.
