The Hive Settlement in Soulbank | World Anvil

The Hive

Located in the center of Neon Server, this is a district dedicated primarily to high density residences and the central park of Neon, which maintains a wild appearance in contrast to the artificiality of the city. The relatively crowded conditions have given rise to numerous gangs vying for turf, with varying rationales. For the immortal Users (thanks in part to Argon Entertainment), this has practically become a spectator sport with ritualistic rumbles and colorful gangs trying to stand out. Many larger factions recruit these local Users as mercenaries, and more than one Dynasty has formed from coalitions that started in The Hive.

Notable Features

Central Park

Central Park rests directly underneath The Beacon. Where its beam intersects the surface of Central Park's lake is coordinates 0, 0, 0, and the exact center of Neon Server. Sitting on the surface of the water is a mysterious, serene being believed to be an Administrator who oversees the Park. The park itself resists permanent structures, which are overrun and derezzed by spreading fractal vegetation over the course of several day cycles. This has not stopped the occasional faction from using large vehicles as a home base in the park, but staking any permanent claim there is generally frowned upon by the populace, who see it as a true neutral ground.

District Trait: A PC may visit the park as an alternative recall. Roll 2d for fortune to determine the weather for the downtime period:

  • Crit: The weather settings are perfectly optimal. Clear 5 Stress with no penalty from Drift
  • 4-6: Fair Weather. Clear Stress as normal for a recall.
  • 1-3: Inclement Weather. You may pick a different downtime activity instead of going to the park.

Argon Arena

This domed structure is where an entertainment company originally from Argon Server holds numerous games. The building also houses an enormous amount of equipment for setting up impromtu arenas across the Hive for the local gangs' war games, meaning any spot can potentially become a battlefield. Thanks to their information network, assault plans will often prompt their intervention to make a spectacle out of the ensuing battle. A number of the local gangs have given up on stealthy assaults in favor of public challenges.

The Neon Promenade

This massive shopping center gathers objects from across Neon Server for the local populace to buy. Being partially supported by Argon Entertainment, it includes some showy weapon stores that cater to those expecting to get roped into their war games. Most of its stores cater to the domestic needs of The Hive, sporting custom furniture, vehicles, and memory purveyors.

Faction Presence

Argon Entertainment (T4): A division of Argon Entertainment oversees the games of the district and "manages" the gang violence.

Neon City Troubleshooters (T3): Troubleshooter presence is relatively high, working to maintain the peace, or at least that gang violence doesn't spill outside Argon's influence.

Amber Knights(T2): Being a concentrated area of User activity, the Amber Knights have a vested interest in maintaining a hold on the area.

Gearheads (T1): A cycle gang who places particular emphasis on high performance vehicles, rivals to the Amber Knights.

Neon News Now (T0): A struggling news agency that attempts investigative reporting in a climate where audiences are easily distracted by Argon Entertainment's sanctioned competitions.

Demographics

Users make up nearly half the population of The Hive, being the primary residential district of Neon. Process are still a large portion of the population, serving in maintenance and service roles. Shades are somewhat more frequent here due to the high User population combined with the influence of Argon Entertainment's dangerous games. Daemons are not welcome in The Hive, leaving viral imps as the few Daemons brave enough to live here.
