The Crucible

Located in The Boneyard of Neon Server, the Crucible is a giant data recycler, said to be able to delete anything that enters, though its limits have never been confirmed. It uses the freed memory of deleted objects to mint Coin. The site is currently operated by the Blue Bloods, who seek to regain their former glory through the wealth it produces. Their plans have been stymied by the Debuggers, who require junk be purged of Glitch, for fear of minting Coin linked to corrupted memory.

The Church of the Crucible believes that the Crucible is as old as Neon Server and uses the structure as a sacred site. In their belief system, a being who is deleted by the Crucible is reborn into a new, useful role in a larger system that exists outside of Soulbank. As such, the massive recycler is used in retirement ceremonies. According to some of Neon's Urban Legends, not all beings are willing, and the deletion is so complete that they are instantly forgotten by their surviving associates.

Architecture

The central structure of the Crucible is a rotating cylinder with a large conveyor belt feeding junk data into its core. The environment inside is highly magnetized when activated. The surrounding structure is a pair of slopes along the length of the cylinder designed to house and protect the Process operating the device.
