Silver Hold
Defences
The Silver Guard have always taken their role seriously, and this is no more evident than one lay eyes on the fortress constructed around the Mines where their laborers toil. The structure utilizes its terrain in its defenses, being built in the mountainside and using a river to cut off any transportation by land-- one must use an authorized boat to enter beyond the imposing multileveled walls of wood over a stone foundation, with regular manned guard towers sprouting from the palisades that overlooks the surrounding region.
History
When Silver was discovered in the region in 359 Imperial, a mining camp was quickly established by eager prospectors who sought to stake a claim on the valuable metal. In these early years the camp was a self-governed collection of freemen who sought their fortunes, be it as miners or those who sought to make money from those who actually labored away in the mines.
This era would not last long, however, for due to the increased crime rate the Magistrate formed a new organization forty-seven years later in 406 Imperial called the Silver Guard who quickly took control over the camp. As the next couple centuries passed, the authority of the Silver Guard became the law of the settlement. And with such law and stability, taxes were introduced. With these taxes, new infrastructure was constructed and what was once a simple mining camp turned into a fortress to better protect those who resided in the area.
But like the rest of the province, the revolution brought its fair changes to the Silver Hold. When Katsuro Ken took over as the new Captain of the Silver Guard and brought his crusade for law and order back to the region-- the self-motivated miners of the settlement were replaced with criminals who would toil away as they served their sentences. Businesses dried up due to the lack of funds the original miners brought in, the fortress walls that were meant to originally ward off those who would do the residents harm were now that of a prison to keep their laboring captives from escaping.
