The Guardian Temple of Silver Port

The Silver Port Temple was once a proud structure, serving the royal family and the influential. Then it served the masses as the city boomed when Silver was discovered in the mountains. Now… Now it is but a shade of its former self, few still hold the religion of the Empire with reverence.   Even the staff who calls the place home has withered in this new era. For now, the holy site is ruled by Four of the Guardian Priesthood rather than the original Five. And those who attend these holy men? They once numbered over a hundred acolytes, each with dreams of being the successors to the wisemen, but now they dwindle to a meager ten faithful.   That was until a fire burned down the Temple, killing four of the Acolytes-- leaving them homeless and the Priesthood reeling from the Tragedy

Alterations

When the Temple was originally built, it served as a statement of both Daguo and Shuwa power and influence within the region. As such the original building looked like an opulent version of a temple one might find on the Mainland. But such a building was built over 300 years ago.   With each repair from a storm or just general entropy of a building being around as long as it has, the temple became more modest and Jin in design in its old age, changing with alterations every generation. Records tell of in its final years, it still bore the looming shadows of the wounds of Daguo Occupation and the War that lead to the people of the Dawn Islands being able to govern themselves.

History

When the Daguo Empire annexed the Dawn Islands in 278 Imperial, the once small fishing town that now stands as the economic powerhouse known as Silverport was their first foothold in the territory. As such the ruling Shuwa Clan originally called this region home and desired a temple to honor the Five Guardians in thanks for their fortune. It took 11 years into their rule before their new temple was built, but in that time the ruling family ensured it was a testament to the prestige to behold by any visitor who came into their lands from the mainland. To run their new treasure, the Shuwa clan recruited a Priest per Guardian. The still recognized Four were selected from the finest temples from the mainland they could find, one of their own serving as the representative of the Yellow Dragon.   For the first 37 years, the Temple served the ruling family, the court, and its guests exclusively. But when the Shuwa Clan moved to Tobushu in 326, the Temple opened to the general public. And it’s popularity would explode when the silver rush happened 33 years later. Even with the renovations over time, the Silverport Temple would remain a popular tourist destination for those visiting the region for the next 300 years until civil war broke out in the region in the 600s.   After a forty-year-long war, and the newfound independence of the Jin who call the Dawn Islands home, the temple has become much less welcomed. Even after the death of the last Priest of the Yellow Dragon and the refusal to replace him in 649, the local population still tends to see the Temple and the Guardian Priests as a reminder of both the occupation and bloody revolution to remove the Daguo-ren’s influence from the locals. This appeared to hit its boiling point near the 20th anniversary of the city's independence from the mainland, as the Temple was burned-- killing four of the final Acolytes that served the city's aging shrine.
