Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 31 Report

General Summary

Free from the depths of the Silverhold Mines, the Brides of Akkoro and the Rising Koi’s paths once again diverge. The Rising Koi make their way to talk to the Warden, with the cryptic hints of machinations of the world beyond their hometown echoing through their mind. What they walk into is a debate on the fate of Utano, the Faithless Sister of the Brides of Akkoro, and the Mother of Choko.   Seargent Kane argues, “Lieutenant Seji, Sir, we are not seriously considering allowing that Terrorist to keep her life, are we?! Ever since she entered our walls, she has been nothing less than a threat to the stability of our authority here. First the Contraband, now she was able to sneak in her entire cell within. They threatened your life, we can end her reign of terror now before she does any more harm!”   Private Suki retorts, “That ‘terrorist’ is a damaged woman, manipulated by the criminals who threaten the city! She is a mother looking to defend her child by any means necessary, and if she wanted to kill you, she had her chance and yet didn’t take it. What makes us better than Them is our capacity for mercy, do we really want to throw that away?”   Stuck in the middle, Warden Seji asked for the Rising Koi’s opinion. After considering what they knew from both their confrontation with Utano herself and the words of the Brides, they convinced the Warden that he should stay his hand. He expressed his concern on the leftover threads of keeping their promise this presented but ultimately agreed, and Yengandor pleaded they ensure they gave her medical attention for the burns she received the day previous. From here they walked the fine line between their business and not admitting to siding with the Brides the night previous. Skeptical he may have seen, he spoke of the last message he received from Omari and his speculation on what it might mean:   “The Emperor Walks In The Blessed Sunlight of Amon-Sol”.   But such speculation would come to little considering the Party’s refusal to indict themselves, they couldn't find a way of sharing their newfound knowledge. This questioning would be cut mercifully short as there was a commotion outside as the gates were opened without the appropriate authorization. And the party would use this commotion as their way out of any further questions.   On the way back home to Silverport, the Rising Koi and Akinari would spot the abandoned boat that the Brides had used in their escape. Insistent as Akinari was, the party agreed to humor her to keep her from getting suspicious. And while they didn’t do the best job hiding the fact that they were faking it, Bimbledorf found a clue. Where the Brides had landed on shore and some tracks that lead westward in the wilds towards the direction of Silverport. Akinari left them there, instead taking both boats tied together to make it back to report in.   On their trek back, the party was ambushed by a Giant Mantis that took a devastating bite out of Diaono before Yengandor slaughtered the creature with a Fireball that attracted a patrol of Goblin Scouts riding Gaint Beetles. A tense standoff ensued, leading to one of the Goblins murdering the one who claimed they were in charge and inviting them back to camp to meet their leader Blacktounge– under the claim they were not as prisoners but as guests.
