Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 28 Report

General Summary

After the successful purchase of a Sampan named The Flying Carp, our band of adventurers set out to unravel the truth of what occurred around dawn this morning. Their first stop: the fortified Silverguard Docks.   Uncertain as to what to expect, the party was cautious in their approach– especially when they saw the destroyed remnants of the boats sunk to the bottom of the river and the corpses that littered the area. Xiyan inspected the dead, noting that the entire garrison of Silverguard here seemed to have suffered a prolonged fate of what they had seen the Magistrate go through a week earlier. Apollo and Yengandor noticed the still figures still watching the walls, undisturbed by the events that unfolded around them– only to discover they were intangible, non-existent figures. With the section clear of danger, Diaono pulled the gates open for the Silverguard who were preparing to siege the area. And after a brief conversation once more with Sergeant Seiji Yuta, the Rising Koi realized that this was a stalling tactic: Whatever the mysterious figures wanted, it led back to Silverhold itself.   Five hours to mull over what they had just witnessed would allow their minds to worsen their fears of the uncertainty of what awaited them at Silverhold… paranoia threatening to boil over when they saw the walls lined with Guards at the ready with Crossbows. A tense standoff was mercifully cut short by a newer recruit: Yengandor’s childhood friend, Private Suki. While the commanding officer wasn’t taking chances, the compliance of the Rising Koi granted them access inside. Here Suki explained that this morning seven guards came in with a male prisoner for sentencing– she didn’t get a good look at any of the new arrivals, but after their meeting with the Warden… Lieutenant Seiji Tadashi started to behave suspiciously. He had the Mines sealed off once more, had the guards go on high alert against any intruders, and said he was not to be disturbed in his offices.   With these clues, the Rising Koi demanded they be allowed to see the Warden– without their presence known beforehand. Given how strange the Warden had begun to act, their demands were agreed to, with Apollo picking the lock to take a peek inside. He didn’t see the Warden, but Utano, at the desk looking over documents left in the open. Knowing she should still be under lock and key, Apollo snuck into position… before Bimbledorf accidentally tipped the woman off to their presence.   Utano, furious at what she had seen as a betrayal by those in the room, started ranting at them. She called them lairs, cowards, traitors, bullies, anything she could think of to reprimand them for denying her visitation to her daughter. Diaono wasn’t having any of it and struck her, where she warned them how her murder could affect her child. And so Yengandor tried to silence her, she bit him as hard as she could as he threatened to burn off her face. Eventually, they were able to pull her out of the room and subdue her, where she tried to bargain for her freedom with the knowledge of where the Warden was hidden away. But the party wasn’t buying it, nor did they wish to waste time as they now knew who it was they were chasing and what it was they were after. Worse yet, they had a head start….
