Roar (o-ta-kay-be)

Roar is a nightclub and a hostess clubin Okinami. The native name is 雄叫び (Otakebi), roar/war cry. but it is also advertised using the English name Roar and is therefore called Roar in the novels. It is thought that the onomatopoeia of 'Roar' is more favorable than 'Otakebi' to English speakers.    The nightclub features popular modern music across the rock, electronic, hip hop and pop genres. There are several DJs who bring their own flavor and the club often hosts live bands on Friday and Saturday nights. The main hall is a cavernous space with a stage for the performances, DJ platform to the side of the stage, a large dance floor and a bar and table area in the back. There is also a catwalk, which patrons are welcome to roam, that has several areas with chairs, tables and couches. The bar is diversely stocked and the kitchen serves a variety of food.   The hostess club has a separate entrance with a lobby/reception area where patrons can inquire about renting a room or check in for their previously scheduled appointments. Between this lobby and the main hall there is an antechamber that serves to help reduce club noise shared with the back rooms. The doors to the kitchen and a stairwell are also here. There are multiple rooms for rent which can accommodate intimate to large gatherings. Along with choosing an appropriate room, a guest will chose one or more hostesses, the types of drinks to stock the room, and specify the desired atmosphere. Requests for specific food items may be given ahead of time or ordered from the menu available that day.   The two sides of Roar work harmoniously. Unengaged hostesses may spend time in the nightclub to entice patrons to purchase their company or book a room if available. Guests of the back rooms may spend time in the nightclub with or without hostesses. Higher class food and drink than one might expect for a nightclub is available to all patrons.   Roar is owned by Shiryuu, a business conglomeration with diverse holdings. The upper floors of Roar are the headquarters of Shiryuu and the location is often used to host business meetings and other functions for the organization.   Discrete patrons will find there is a large unwritten menu that includes recreational drugs and sexual services.
