Ethnic Tension

There are several cultures in Rhunec and not all of them get a long. Whether its for historical reasons, policy disputes, or incompatible magic, there is animosity between different groups of people. Mostly the ethnic tensions are between cities specifically or between cultures in general   Allos is the most welcoming of all the city-states and so is the Golem Culture in general. Many people with different marks are born or end up in Allos.   Those of the Snake Culture believe themselves to be superior and generally look down on all the other cultures. This can needle others and some call the people of the snake cultures worms as an insult. Pretty much everyone hates people from the snake culture. People of the snake culture often have Snake Marks as well. The snake culture is one of the most pure from a mark point of view and this has lead to a disdain for other, "mixed" cultures - like the Golem culture in Allos.   Saku is not friendly to outsiders. They believe those with the snake mark are the most superior and look down on others. The strict miliatry rule by the Gundan of Saku of Saku doesn't help either.   Awane, while part of the snake culture, is more welcoming than Saku. In Awane, the Game dominates everything. If you can play the Game and contribute, then you are welcomed. See the Crown of Awane for more information. However, they do look down on dragon culture as brutish and lacking finesse.   Losla, while being an isolated city-state, is very neutral. Survival in The Flatlands is not easy and resources can be found in the most unlikely places, or people. The people of the Tortoise Culture can come off as cold, but truly they are assessing to see if you can be of use or are just a nuisance. The Tortoise Culture on a whole is like this. The harsh desert of the Flatlands isolates villages and makes them suspicious of outsiders. However, they don't care what mark you bear, if you are good to them, they will be good to you.   The Kraken Culture is generally welcoming. Both Rochia and Celletia are major trade centers and attract people from all over Rhunec. The healers in Rochia are especially welcoming as their main mission is to help others, no matter who they are or where they come from.   The Dragon Culture is outgoing and rambunctious, where the strongest are revered. Fights and duels are common. They don't care who you are or what your mark is, if you can beat them in a fight, you have a new friend for life. They do have a huge beef with the snake culture though. The worst insult to give to a dragon is to call them a serpent or a snake. That is a fast track to an all out brawl. Sover and Uthal also have a rivalry, friendly though. It goes back to their founding story, The Twins.   The Wolf Culture is very reserved and cold to other cultures. They are focused on preserving knowledge in The Library at Heim and surviving the many dangers of The Pine Coast . They look down on the Golem Culture for being too open and vice-loving. Everyone else views the wolf culture with distaste, as their cold and proud demeanor can be very off-putting.   All cultures hate anyone with the Crow Mark or crow magic practitioners. There is no crow culture to speak of and the people of Rhunec keep it that way. It is generally believed that the Tunsi harbor people with Crow Marks. This has lead to violence against the nomadic people, who often must protect themselves from angry mobs.
