Kupar

The Kupar is the central monetary denomination used within the Grand Duchy of Canyndor. The Kupar is largely the unit of currency used to log income and spending, tax and revenue amongst the more wealthy individuals in Doric society. Having been brought into widespread use by King Altti "the Silver King", though it had been in limited use beforehand in varying forms, the Kupar would be standardised on the average cost of a Take or Half-pound of Silver and has remained at this rough value ever since.   There is often confusion between the two forms of Kupar which exist due to the existence of the Gold Kupar based upon the standard measurement as set out by King Altti, and the Silver Kupar which is a ceremonial coin worth approximately 3 Pips (though it worth 3 Pips for its material, due to its rarity, the Silver Kupar is often considered worth as much as a Gold Kupar to the willing collector) which is said to be the equivalent value of Silver given to Altti be each of his vassals upon his coronation at the Great Hall of Ilpamett. Today, the silver Kupar is in limited circulation. However, a significant rise in the price of silver during the 75th and 76th centuries saw the need for the Silver Kupar to be altered as its under-valued nature had seen many simply selling the coins across the border for their value in pure silver. Ultimately, under Grand Duke Armas III the Kupar would have a hole placed in its centre to bring its value closer to its original intent.   The Gold Kupar, or Kupar Proper, is more widely circulated but falls mainly into the hands of the very wealthy due to its impracticality in most everyday purchases and business. The coin is a medium-sized coin of pure gold that is highly coveted for its prestige, especially as the most valuable minted coin for circulation in the entire central kingdoms.
