Alicornia

Introduction

Alicornia is the worlds first nation after the devastation of Humanity in the Great Necrosis, Often recorded to have existed for 40 miillion years, though it's very uncertain if the actual passage of time was that long, or if there was some sort of time distortion or if the time span actually is 40 thousand years, many Alicornian Romantics prefer 40 Million while skeptic favour 40 thousand.   In either case, it'd make Alicornia the single longest lasting Civilization ever, who were masters at Magitech and could even manipulate the very continents themselves to fit their needs. They were at the peak of Artistry, Science, development and society, the single greatest civilization ever seen, toppping all of the Human ones that came for it.   Yet despite their vast knowledge, technology, military power and Economy, they fell to the same short comings of all the Human Empires before them, becoming Greedy, divided, power hungry and ultimately, dead.   Alicornia while being the greatest Civilization in recorded history, is also the single greatest disappointment in all of history, failing to get into the stars. Failing to learn from the mistakes of Humanity. Failing to preserve their own rights and culture and finally, bringing ruin upon the entire world and giving way to the Age of Dusk.

Government

Alicornia was a Neo Feudal State with absolute power going to First Lord of Light Manus and then Queen Rosaria, his wife at the time. It is not exactly certain what the borders were but many major capital cities in various Post Alicornian States were the same Capital cities in the provinces of the Empire. The cities that come to mind is Crysnel which was the main seat of power in Alicornia, next is Lexer or Hopes Reach which were Alicornian cities and still have with them the magic of the former empire.   Even Evergreen, the First capital of Northern Equestria was the House capitial of House Evergreen. Noble Houses formed up the government and ran their own regions with guidance of the Maester Councils which was some kind of vague regulatory body within the government.

Why not a Democracy?

Historians are often baffled by this question, as all Remnants of Human civilization either come from Democratic countries or tyrannical ones and oddly, Alicornia chose to become a Neo Feudal State. Skeptics often outline this as proof of Early on set Development stunting that essentially prevented Alicornia from actually learning from their far more in depth understanding of Human History and was likely caused by a lack of Understanding or trust in People rule and that Early societies are more likely to pick a central ruler and over time gain greater sophistication and through the process of development and delegation of power over the course of thousands of years, democratize until they adopt full People Rule.   Indeed, People rule makes sense for Modern Societies as the system has become far too complex for one Central ruler to effectively manage, making either Reform or revolution inevitable.   Romantics however believe that Alicornia kept central rule as they believe People rule to be a road to a tyranny of Majorities. Believing like Alicornia that rule and the power it yields is meant for a "Better Man" which essentially means the aristocracy because they can afford the expensive education. Romanticism of Alicornia is part of what was used to justify Post Alicornian states to still maintain Central rule, even after the complete collapse of the Empire.

Civil Liberties and 'Alicornian Rights'

Rather then having inclusive terms such as Sapient Rights, Intelligent rights and what not, Alicornia had very racialized terminology which dots their surviving legal documents. Alicornia appeared to be some sort of Theocratic Monarchy with guaranteeing of various rights but lacks the institutional sophistication to properly moderate such a thing.   Alicornians were afforded many rights however there is an air of classism in it and of course it makes no mention of other species meaning that one could legally oppress at the time Foxaria or Panarians and face no legal repercussions.

Slavery

For what appears to be for most of Alicornian history Slavery was banned in some lands while others it was an open secret, the full recognition of slavery came within the last 200 years of Alicornia's existence which exists in the Form of the Slave Code Act. In this act it included dozens of regulations and rules which governed how the system was supposed to work.   According to collected history, some Feudal powers actually abided by this and others seemingly more anti slavery powers did not and instead out right banned slavery locally.

Colonialism

Historians have uncovered ancient charters, maps and log books which suggests that Alicronia had explored all of the world's continents and had something of a near global Empire running, engaging in colonial practices. It is often noted that it appears that Alicornian Colonialists were elitist and discriminatory to the natives they ruled over.   Many have tried to find these continents, only written about but none have ever succeeded, leading some to believe, namely the Romantics that it is all fiction and not real for how could such a great civilization be so backward?

Culture

To this day, Alicornian culture bleeds into so many states, such as the worship of former human Cultures, the fashion wear and celebration of the aristocracy. Alicronia was a empire in it's prime, it's people enjoyed extremely long, healthy and pleasure filled lives with especially the higher classes living in near total chemical delight every day.   In fact, skeptics notice that Alicornia had exactly zero societal changes and governmental policy changes outside of surface appeasements and were essentially stagnating for a lot of their history. This is likely due to the excess of power and simplistic flow of Information that makes it harder to be aware of on going problems.

Established Aristocracy

Alicornia had a typical feudal hierarchy with the Rich living amazing lives and the poor less so, though life appears largely peaceful for most of it's history. There was very little upwards mobility and there was an element of racial discrimination as Historians found that the majority of nobles were Alicorns. The Aristocracy threw massive, extravagant celebrations all the time and Sex was a huge part of that celebration.

Decadence

There is a lot of evidence of increasing intensities of Decadence in the Empire within the last 200 years of it's existence, this was likely due to a loss of purpose and direction as well as a receding church influence. Rather then trying to progress, many in higher society instead drank, fucked and smoked their lives away. Leaving the rest of society to pick up after them.   It eventually bleeds downwards, as historians find various reports that indicates declining GDP, Productivity and development. It's this event that resulted in the world current suffocating purity culture, especially in the nobility.

Imperial Church

There was in fact an Religious organization before the Celestial Church it appears to have been a massive religion of billions of individuals across the world with the fanciest, opulent cathedrals and temples to Rosaria and Manus. However in the Empire's decline, Rosaria's sect decayed and became revolutionary while Manus's sect became more political then religious, enforcing a strict aristocracy on places they could.   In modern understanding this Church is far more of a cult then even traditional religions, indicating extremism and narrow minded thinking in the Empire's Decline.

Gender Roles and Sexuality Limitations

Even as decadence overran higher society, many daughters were still subjected to arranged marriages for political reasons with women having a shockingly diminished role. It is unclear if this was a thing that happened over time or was simply hard baked into the culture. All the same, even the Celestial sisters were not safe as Historians note that Luna at an early age refused most suitors and refused to obey by her father's wishes.   It appears that in terms of leadership, women take secondary role with the men having all of the power inherently. This is definitely because of the Feudal System at work. Because women were property, they were allowed their own personal relations with whoever

Fashion

Alicornians in the late period of the Empire often wore loose and revealing clothing or massively over decorated and dramatic pieces. Royalty often wearing ornate jewel crusted clothes with flashy crowns, scepters and much more. Minimalism was big as well, with a culture centered around Beauty and sex appeal. Wearing a sheer dress with brilliant glimmering jewels and equally as decorated under garments was more then just fashion, it was a statement, a demonstration of being in the group and demonstrating your class.   Lower classes eventually lost their style and colour due to excessive wealth gaps resulting in pragmatic, sometiems poorly repaired garments that showed off the simplistic lives of billions across this spanning empire.

Food

Food for the Higher classes was excessive in almost every way and extremely rich where as of coure, food for the lower classes was depressingly simpl,e and though they did a good job and creatively making food they were still no where close to the absolute excess of the rich. Imagine this, a Platter of turkey with saled aroudn it, various fruits and grapes. The Turkey marinated in the absolute crème of the crop honey served on Pure silver platter with golden trimming ,jewels encrusted onto the platter.   The Turkey is of the finest quality, bred and grown specifically for this platter and for you to eat, while you drink wine so expensive it's easier to buy all of The Equestrian Empire and it's subsidiary states then to buy a single bottle of this one wine that has been brewed specifically for you with a recipe you designed and paid for to show off.   Finally to top it all off, the very table clothe your excessively decorated cutlery, glasses and much more sits upon is silk brought over from many continents away from some forgotten country, so far you will likely never see it yourself ad all of this is done for a regular every day dinner and -not- to show off to dignitaries for you have something far better already arranged.   Now you begin to see just how excessive food was, for the higher classes.

Diversity

Unlike the current world Remnant exists in, the continent and many others are nearly completed unified under one central empire which means that food from quite literally anywhere is available to you. It is possible to eat authentically for a new culture every day of the week for a month and only at the end begin finding difficulties in trying something new.   Would the people of that culture get to enjoy the same delights? Of course not, they're subjects!

Economy

If there was a resource, the Empire probably not only had it, but had it in spades and this is thanks to a theorized period of mass conquest and consolidation. As such there was often very few shortages however the decadence, the waste and the excess of the Empire escalated to such a dramatic extent in the Decline that the GDP of a global massive empire managed to Decline and it's currency began to lose it's often thought invincible value.   There was more to the story then simply the decline of productivity, these declines were due to a growing pattern of instability in Alicornia's control and growing call for representation and fairness in the empire. Freedria being the first known rebel state and major holder of various essential resources for the Empire outlines the key reason for decline.   As the elitism and Imperialism of Alicornia became unsustainable, Anti Alicornian Rebels strategically cut off the life blood of the global empire and over the course of 200 years, they slowly strangle the great beast, all while it was too drunk, stupid and hyped up to even ever truly notice it happening. Right about now a Romantic would tell you that this is all nonsense and that the Empire was perfectly healthy barring some 'overblown' examples.   According to Modern Economic experts and Historians, Alicornia took a sharp decline and was barreling towards the single greatest financial crisis ever, when they arrested Rosaria. The arresting of the Queen sent literal shockwaves across the entire Empire inspiring global rebellion and while Equus was seemingly quiet. It was likely caused by multiple continental Rebellions that must of been o n a low ebb until that inciting incident.   If Discord's rise did not happen, Alicornia would have been in a massive resource war with the entire world within the next 30-40 years as the stockpiles were to vast for the effects to be immediately felt. Of course a Romantic would tell you that the Empire is eternal and that any silly rebellions would of been stopped.

Military

Exact numbers are hard to confirm but it is known that if Alicornia had of existed in the current world of Remnant, they would easily be able to counter act and perhaps even defeat all of the worlds current great Military powers. Alicornia had a massive army, spanning hundreds of thousands of Legions that could of composed of hundreds of millions of soldiers each.   Their fleets were recorded to top the number of ships and operational capacity and even mobility of any current day Naval power. However Current day military experts outline a clear lack of operational finesse and theorize that the military was more about scarring subject states into submission then operational efficiency as all known communication methods are not fast enough to coordinate an army so impossibly large.   Indeed historical documents suggest this as the Army was a political one, enforcing the regime's power and partaking in dramatic overblown exercises and parades.

Production & Development

Counting on the entire global Economy, the Military was able to produce unimaginable weapons and equipment with Magical golems so big, they could outsize a Sky scraper. Their supply of Aura crystals was clearly even better then Yorta in every imaginable way, producing a insane number of Auralight rifles, magi tech devices and Vox boxes for communication.   Able to effectively equip, train, feed and develop millions upon millions of soldiers all at once. As of 4478 AD, it was uncovered by the Mayfield Historical society that the military could of been preparing to spread out into space and project Alicornian supremacy into the stars and indeed they could produce theoretical craft that sail into space with enough energy to travel to planets and would of had the numbers for each legion to gain total dominance over the globe.   It's possible that greater communication methods were being worked on, but that information is still missing.

Doctrine

No official documents of Doctrines truly remain so Military experts believe that Cross spectrum dominance and as well as Shock and Awe was the guiding principles of Alicornian War Doctrine. Emblematic of a Privileged army, they preferred resource rich operations and did little to conserve man power or resources. It's possible that the vast majority of Alicornian troops were poorly trained compared to modern armies and focused on massive wave attacks with impossibly large artillery batteries and fleets to grind the enemy to dust.   This Doctrine while inefficient in War times, is very ideal for a Empire in Decline, as it enables mass deployment of force without the concern of figuring out how to crush newly rebelling armies that are from your own forces. Indeed it'd let them deploy to any rebelling state, however Lexean Military officials doubt the efficiency of the plan as they note similiar practices in Equestria and already know ways of how to dismantle it even with diminished forces and power.
