Caballria (Cab-all-ria)

Written by ReaverArklight

Caballria is a province that successfully pushed back Equestria's initial expansion during the era of renewal at the beginning of the age of Dusk. The Countries history is that it was a dissident province within Alicornia though much else then that is not very clear as the vast majority of history is told through legend and story rather then conventional methods of keeping history. It also appears that Caballria's society was built from the same seeds that lexer was.   In the times of the Era of Grey, Caballria is the definition of stagnation. It exists as an highly defended nation with massive walls along it's borders that prevent all invasions from foreigners. It's a favoured location for Lexean and other foreigners to take a vacation in and is a common tax haven with few increases and decreases in the strength of it's currency and economy. This is thanks to the Order of Owls, an organization that was built during the nations early days that focuses on creating prosperity and stability within their nation.   This has created what is referred to as "Managed Civilization" where history, society and cultural entertainment is all passed through a filter to keep a single narrative alive within the nation. At the same time many within the nation favour the idea of democracy but democracy is chaotic so an equally 'managed' system is in place to keep control of all things.   Diplomatically the country is stagnating as well, with no real attempts made at depending connections but also careful management to prevent any real decay in relations as well. Due to this many see Caballria as a sort of time capsule though only certain trusted individuals can visit and experience it.

Government

As stated before, Caballria is a 'Managed' Democracy. This system is where there are two major parties that have many surface differences but both deep down are fundamentally the same party with the same donors and same types of organizations backing them. This system is furthered by the 'managed' press in which various seemingly different newspapers all fundamentally maintain the status quo.   Each figure in government is specially selected to maintain this status quo with notable wealth being made in return for their work. Political parties or figures unfavourable to the Status quo conveniently always meet unfortunate ends, die or some major controversy comes out that destroys their political influence. This system has worked for thousands of years but the order has grown complacent and lazy in some area, meaning slowly but surely a crowd of discontent citizens, soldiers and nobles are growing in the shadow with new radical ideas of Republicanism, free political reign and accepted chaos that'd stem from it all. That being said, change is long way from happening still and even by the 2nd Equestrian civil war, the nation isn't ready to change just yet. The government works in tiers of authority rather then separate branches operating various tasks.   Order of Owls: Little is known about the order or who serves on it as the order is a mysterious gathering of various individuals across society from all walks of life, enable them to control the country in a more subversive way. The most well known member of this order is the Speaker, a figure who comes out dressed in robes and cloak with a mask of a owl. The rare occurrences of this figures appearance is often unexpected and highly revered events similar to that of a god themselves arriving amongst mortals.   Giving the order of owls a very powerful and religious method to control the nation and there have been very few times in history where this has been challenged.    The Council: The Council is a mostly unelected body with the high consul being the only elected position, the position supposedly has power but in reality all of the Owl appointed councillors have the real power while the consul takes out huge pay out. Becoming a High consul within Caballria is a very quick way to get rich if you were previously down on your luck.    The Council manages all of the small details of the nation from Tax rates, to law to general domestic policy, often keeping to the same general mould only making steady changes if changes need to be made to maintain the status quo though during the waning days of the Era of grey, the council has gotten complacent much like the Order and have been lagging behind on policies and decisions, just taking out huge pay outs and changing very little.    Steadily weakening the nation and adding little bits of legitimacy to the dissident political factions within the nation.

Economy:

Caballria's economy is as stagnant and stable as much of the things about this nation, managed very carefully only growing the economy in sustainable ways with sustainable supply and demand. Causing a frankly near unseen phenomenon in the world where the economy never makes any giant leaps or has any giant falls. It is always a slow but steady increase with very few instances of declines. Due to military pressure there is no complacency to be found here, the the best of the best are allowed to be involved in the economy.   Many Economists seeking to get advice and perhaps guidance to better manage their economies but almost all of them are denied as Caballria does not not like to be transparent about what they are doing or how they are going. Their closet partner is lexer which is slightly frustrating to Cabrallians as Lexer is always trying to spread it's ideals and concepts to those it trades with.    Lexer being a Mostly Free market Stakeholder Capitalistic system, many of it's companies and guilds are ethically inclined outside of the standard model of appeasement and surface level politics. It often attempts to spread it's economic ways to Caballria and the nation often has to remain watchful of Lexean influence seeping into the nation.   It's most common export is Agriculture and other civilian goods that Lexer can sometimes struggle to produce on their own so it is very common for local business men to trade those exports in return for Lexer's equipment and general industry goods.

Culture:

The Culture seems to have very similar if not identical influences as Lexer, but there was no great culture integration of outsider cultures meaning that the nation not only has consistently more Greek names, but also uses more Greek phrases and even has a large pantheon gods that are separate from their historical predecessors. The religion is referred to as the Cult of the Owl though those inside the religion say church instead of cult.    This religion is among the strictest faiths in the world, the religion includes tenants that regulate dress, interaction and even diets. A lot of it is about preserving the culture and aesthetic of the nation and those who attempt to look different or deify these standards are often shunned. Though for those who do follow the codes of the religion their experience is far more pleasant.    So long as the activity or event fits within the regulations of the cult it is free to enjoy and depending on your branch of the cult, your almost expected to enjoy certain activities depending on the deity's personality and hobbies. Those who follow the cult, follow their gods and goddesses so closely they try to become as like them as possible. Allowing for incredible amounts of control over society, this being one of the many ways the Order of owls keeps it's strangle hold.   The most beloved cultural practice is the Mythological Caravans, where a selected few entertainers and animals are set forth in a caravan to travel to different nations and preform for the citizens to give the impression that Caballria is organic and well functioning society. It is also considered one of the worlds Maraval's to have a caravan preform within your city. Each Caravan star being almost world famous, because of how revered it is around the world.   Another beloved practice is the day of Love, in which Caballrians travel to struggling parts of the world to aid those in need and share some of the wealth of Caballria with struggling nations to uplift them but these missions are controlled by the owls to prevent as many diplomatic incidents as possible that could happen if Caballrians help the wrong people and hurt the interests of Caballria's Allies as well as their own national interests.

Military:

The Military is one of the few things in Caballria that isn't stagnating, it is constantly pushing to have a bleeding edge in technology and have a good standing army to defend it's massive border walls and pay for it's expensive maintenance. One of the best assets of Caballria's military is it's artellery, having some of the longest ranged guns in the world, allowing them to fire quite far into the Badlands deserts.    The second most impressive formation is the Caballrian Airforce, despite being not the biggest around the world, they have some of the best Recon Airships in the world as well as long range telescopes and divination capabilities. meaning that the navy is often used to guide the Artillery though due to the lack of Radio, really long range targets are almost always established targets not likely to move any time soon.    Their also capable of putting up a good fight against Lexean Skyhawks and the Northern Legion Airforce despite their size due to very impressive captains and officers managing the fleets.    They also have a very strong force of Hoplites though are no where near as experienced as campaigns outside the border wall are few and far between due to the Lexean armies taking on the defence of Caballria, Alpacan and Tapira onto them selves by establishing a very strong border sheltering almost every single approach that the Naqah war hordes could take except for a small part of wall closest to Tolvana.

Both have maintained a stagnant but satisfactory relationship for a long time, both nations have traded with each much in that time, only slightly tweaking the deals every so often.

Simple Trading partners

Nothing overly special is going on between these two except for the same old trading deals that it's always been.

Trading Partners

Same as it always was, Caballria and Konja trade with each other the same stuff they always have.

Trade Partners and Rivals

Lexer distrusts the Order of Owls, believing that the people of Caballria should free themselves and democratize. Caballria wishes to maintain relations but is worried they may have to deal with Lexer to maintain order within the Nation.
