Nuskan, Capital City of P'Ache Micro

The Capital

Nuskan is the Capital of P'Ache Micro, the smallest planet in the P'Ache Solar System at the heart of the Peacekeeper Alliance.
It is said that the city was founded first by a great bird, who made its nest in the branches of the Hometree - Fenfolium Abordormusia which are plentiful in this area. The great bird saw the Macrans struggling and opened their nest to any who needed it.

The city has changed a lot since the Macrans signed the treaty with the Primians. This article is therefore going address both versions of the city in turn, first 271 PT just before the treaty was signed (and the period which appears in Chapter 1: 13 Four 271 PT in Tales from P'Ache ), then the city as it stands today in 4748 PT.

271 PT

Demographics

The people who called Nuskan home in 271 PT were exclusively Macran. There were a wide range of different Macrans living here, families who had lived here for generations alongside those wanting to create a new life for themselves.
However, as there was no space travel at this time for the Macrans, with the exception of the Primians landing here and attempting to set up a treaty, offworlders did not live here.

Infrastructure

Being built on the swamp and marshland, a lot of the infrastructure of Nuskan was based around the waterways and rivers which flow out into Nuskan Bay. These waterways are used for the transportation of both goods and people throughout the city.
Each district of the city had its own centre, with shops and facilities. In addition to this, the Place of People is home to the main legal, legislative and judicial departments which run the city.

Factions

There are several major factions in Nuskan at this time. These included:

• Macranist Society

Dedicated to preserving Macran history and traditions in the face of the arrival of the Primians.


• Saltans

A sprawling family-style organisation who live on the coast and have a reputation for low-level criminality.


• Rooters

A traditional people, who are mostly farmers.


• Starry Eyed

A nickname given to a group who want to explore and join the universe.

Industry & Trade

Nuskan in this time is a bustling city, a centre for politics, trade and with a large number of farming and agriculture along the outer edges.

Districts

Place of People

This is the city center, the hub. It is known as being a place for law and politics.

The Nest

So called because it is said to be where the Great Bird built its nest. More religious than the rest of the city.

The Roots

The oldest part of the city, where the first settlers to this area built their homes.

Hollow

Bustling and vibrant part of the city, known for its markets and thriving creativity-focused culture.

Eastern Marshes

One of the suburbs, used most by those who can't afford to live in the city proper, or like to connect more with nature.

Western Marshes

One of the two farming districts of Nuskan. They are known for their fruits and herbs.

Western Reach

The second of the two farming districts of Nuskan, specialising more in animal husbandry than plant cultivation.

Crags

The only rocky area of the city. People who live here are considered strange for not wanting to live in the swamp.

Outer Branches

A well-to-do suburb of the city, where the majority of the wealthy families of Nuskan have at least one home.

The Salt Wash

The port of the city, which trades with other towns and cities across P'Ache Micro. Busy and full of outsiders.

Brine

Initially the warehouse district, Brine is best known as the home of the Saltans.

Demographics

The people living in Nuskan are mostly workers, brought in to work on the off the coast rigs which extract mineral from the ocean. There are also some old Macran families, who choose to live in a more traditional way.

Infrastructure

The majority of the infrastructure in Nuskan is built to support the mineral extract. There is a major spaceport, with both intergalactic and in-atmosphere flights. There is a large amount of hospitality, targetting the workers and those higher ups who come to inspect and oversee procedures. There's also a small amount of educational facilities, designed to cater for those interested in a future overseeing the rigs.

Factions

There are two main groups of people in Nuskan. The first are people shipped in to deal with the mineral-extraction rigs and the business of this. By most these are considered "Riggers".

Mudwalkers

Those who are native to Nuskan, who come from long family lines, and have a tendency to live in a more traditional way, are known as Mudwalkers, for the way they choose to live their lives.

Industry & Trade

The primary industry of Nuskan is the extraction and shipping off of minerals used by Peacekeepers for the construction of goods and technologies, used throughout The Alliance.

Districts

The Ports

This is where the spaceport is situated, along with the majority of the temporary housing for those visiting the planet.

The Docks

This is the warehouse district, where goods gathered are stored for transport off-world.

The City

This is where any one who lives permanently in Nuskan lives. It is also the home to several "on-planet offices" for different parts of the extraction process.
