2024 WorldEmber Prep Homework

Week 1: Pledge Your Goal

I can't believe it's almost that time again, but here we are! What a year it's been.

Pledge

I'm in a very strange position at the moment where I am out of work and, therefore, have no idea of how busy I'll be over December. I'm hoping to be busy, but I know it's going to be difficult to tell, and it's also going to be difficult to guess at how my mental health will be if I am still out of work at that point.
With all of that being said, I want to challenge myseif. Last year I achieved 83k, and I am not going to try for that again, but 50k seems like something which would be difficult but not impossible.

Areas of Focus

Last year, I found having a wide range of focuses useful because it meant I could jump around depending on how I was feeling. So I'm going to do the same this year. I have four worlds I'm working on, so I'll pick a couple of areas for each one.

P'Ache

P'Ache is an entire universe which makes the scope very broad. This WE I'll be focusing on:

• Building P'Ache Star System
• Creating New Species
• Fleshing Out Peacekeeper Society

The Wilds

The Wilds is the world I'm using for writing my current novel series, which is generating a lot of stubs. So the focus will be:

• Stub Killing For The Towns
• Stub Killing For Nomads

Solace

Solace is a new Science Fantasy world which is based around cults and magic. Therefore my focuses will be:

• Build Out The Cult
• Build Out The Magic System

Audiode

Audiode is one of those worlds which was made with every intention of being a project for the year, but fell through the cracks. There is only one focus:

• Build More Star Systems

One thing which worked well last year was a to-do list (2023 WorldEmber To Do List), so I'll make the same this year, but one for each of the worlds.

Week 2: Prepare Your World

Some homepages have had more love than others. For example, the P'Ache one is more recently updated than the others. I'll be looking at them all over the course of this month.

CSS

I tend to tweak CSS as I go, but at the moment I am pretty happy with the foundation I have for all of my worlds. I'm also nothing close to a CSS Wizard (although I know a few!), but will review the CSS for each of my worlds anyway.

Final week before WorldEmber! This week should be fairly low-key on the prep, which is good because I have a lot of writing to do for NovelEmber.

Get Some Fresh Air

I love this as an instruction, but with the weather like it is currently, it gets more difficult!
I am planning to get out of the house every day in December, even if it's only for a twenty minute walk.
