Prologue

There was once a time...

It is said that there was once a time when the people of The Towns and the people of the mountains and the forests were a single people. They ate the same food, travelled the same pathways and respected the Wilds they called home.
It is also said that there will come a time when once more the people of The Towns, with their high walls, will return to the people of the mountains and the forests, with their magics. They will eat the same food, travel the same pathways and rescue the Wilds they call home.
People say a lot of things. Few believe what they say.

But for now...

For now, the Known World remains split in two, with the Townsfolks living in the Towns in the North West, and the Nomads travelling through The Forests of The Wilds.

Townsfolk

The Townsfolk see themselves as fundamentally civilised. They are the relatives of pioneers who fought against the chaos of nature to create a safe place for them and their children. They see themselves as continuing that fight against heathens by ensuring they are educated and prosper in everything they do

Nomads

Nomads have strong ties to their history and how they relate to the natural world. They see themselves as being at one with nature and pride themselves on their traditions. They are understanding with one another and present a united front, choosing to work together where they can rather than competing with each other.

The Religion followed in the Towns is monotheistic and does not have a name. They only recognise one god, they talk openly about other powers which affect the world and those who live in it. These other powers are broken up into two distinct groups. Each group has many different members but there are three which are popular in each.
Some Nomdas believe in "whatever forces weave our world", preferring not to name them, while others may believe in the gods' influence but they are not necessarily worshipped. They are thought of by many as powerful forces which mostly don't concern themselves with the lives of mortals and are unlikely to be influenced by them.

The culture of the Townsfolks is very structured and is built around Social Hierarchy of Townsfolk, with the Men of Authority and The Protector's Cleric at the top, ensuring that everyone else stays in their place. They live In The Towns and build around Churches, like The Old Church, Stoneham Town.
The culture of the Nomads is built Around the Campfire with their Hunters' Tents and food like Fyllbrød. Each of the clans is led by a Chief Among Equals and with their Heks, they travel In The Wilds, visiting places like Campsite In The Lost Forest At the Southern Foot Of The Candid Mountains.

Fantastic primer! Excellent layout and interesting information to get people started (and looking into more articles). My favorite line is "People say a lot of things. Few believe what they say." It's powerfully ends your first section.

Thank you! Those words are taken from the opening to the book I'm writing in this world, so I'm really glad you like them! It's also good to know it works as a Primer. :D
