The Hill

This is the high ground east of the river and the fens, stretching from the Fens to the old wall between this and Northbridge. There is a largish settlement along the crest of this hill, as well as a number of scattered clusters of houses all across the hills. Much fo the area is still wooded and undeveloped, with villages appearing at crossroads, and even the settled parts tend to have a rustic tone. This area is popular with elves, Sanaco, northerners, halflings and gnomes, dwarves, and with rangers, druids and the like - adventurers who prefer the woods, and avoid the slam and bang of the Quarter. All of it is heavily influenced by northern culture - many people trace a lineage to Hillsburg, and the ones who don't profess a love of Hillsburg and its ways. It is tied to Hillsburg and the north in more practical ways, of course - much fo the trade and traffic coming through this part of town comes from Hillsburg and the north. It ends up being more like Hillsburg than it is like the rest fo Waynesburg - even Peterborough.    This part of town is called The Hill by the people who live there. Called Fairytown or Fairyland by most of those who don't - a reference to its elves (who are plentiful), though with added connotations that can sometimes start fights.

Demographics

The majority here is still human, but the percentages are a lot lower. Before the trouble as many as 1/3 of the population was elven or half-elven. After the wars, the elven population decreased dramatically, though this is still by far the largest concentration of elves in the city. Half-elves are still very plentiful. There were always halflings, gnomes and dwarves living here - their numbers have increased since the Troubles, sometimes significantly. There are now a fair number of half-orcs living here as well - and this is one fo the places you would find exotic races that are associated with nature - if tabaxi or firbolgs or goliaths turned up in Waynesburg, they would probably end up here.    The human population here skews toward the north. Many are first and second generation Hillsburgers, or at least from the woods and hills to the north and east. There are many Sanaco, and probably more claiming some Sanaco blood. There has always been a degree of transience to the area - people come, stay a while to earn their fortune, go home, usually to the north. There is less of this in the 1610s, but then again, almost everything in Waynesburg has seen a lot of migration in and out. There are, by the 1610s, more southerners in the area - quite a few westerners (this being one fo the places Bayporters like to settle, and a popular destination for Lenics as well) - and as everywhere, lots of easterners. These tend to be from the Makeesa and the Red Empire, rather than the deserts - but those groups have increased noticeably.

Government

Like Peterborough and Southbridge, The Hill virtually runs itself.

Defences

There are walls around Northbridge, but not around this part fo the town, except for some very perfunctory palisades and lines of towers on the eastern hills.

Industry & Trade

This is a major hub on the northern and eastern trade - lumber, minerals, livestock and so on, especialy trade coming in by land. (The riverborne trade lands in Northbridge.)

Architecture

Wooden houses, though with some stone houses scattered. more spread out, which lessens the danger of fire.

Geography

Built mostly along a ridge east of the river. Some of this is quite rough, especially tot he east.
