Wall Street
Wall Street was a street that, as its name suggests, ran around outside fo the old walls, surrounding the Old City. This had a very well earned reputation as the very depths of the city, but in fact, was only terrible in the Gully. The street also ran against the wall east of Michael's Gate, and there was crowded, but not a slum.
West of Michael's Gate, and especially beyond Anthony's Gate, it was, in fact, a slum. This was originally a space left around the outside of the wall, but this was long since filled in, by real buildings and by shacks and lean tos. It was notorious as a den of thieves, with its easy access to the wall, and all the holes in the wall. It buzzed day and night (especially night), a dangerous interzone between the City and the Gully.
After the Troubles, oddly, it became noticeably safer. All of it - like the Gully - was destroyed - and though it was reoccupied and rebuilt in the 1600s, it was also safer than the rest of the ruined Gully, thanks to its proximity to the Old City. was This is a space left clear around the walls, that is still kept clear, in theory, though lean to’s and shacks abound. This is probably the most dangerous place in the world to be on a Saturday night—it can make Farmington look like a hicksville. (Think of the fortified zone outside Paris—the zone - Celine . . . ) DR = kind of irrelevant - it’s a nest of vipers, but if you have to be there, you have to be there . . .
