North Fenway

Swampy stretch of ground on the eastern bank of the river, between the hills of East Village and The Hill (so-called.) This is more populated than the similar bogs across the river - there are patches of dry land here and there (such as at the easten end of the Canal Bridge), and these support some population, and a couple small villages. The village by the bridge is the largest - only a few streets, but a number of establishments - inns and taverns, shops, boat services and so on. Inland, people have settled on some of the dry places - and have worked to reclaim some of the lowlands. Some of these places are quite pleasant, offering room for small farms as well as houses. There are, to be sure, still some transients, some outlaws,a nd a few unsavory industries in the area, but it had become reasonably respectable.

Demographics

The usual blend of humans, halflings and some gnomes, dwarves and half-elves live here. There are also quite a few half-orcs - before the war, this was the largest concentration of half-orcs, usually living a ways inland, on the half-reclaimed land in the mire. There was even a half-orc tavern in those days. There still was one in 1610, and half-orcs are commopn here - though they have expanded into other races, giving this less of the reputation for being their neighborhood. Other creatures have also moved in, especially inland, on the less inviting lands. Goblins in particular are known to have settled in a couple places, where they somewhat inconsistently attempt to shed their reputation for lawlessness. There are other groups - orcs even, hobgoblinds, kobolds and so on - attempting, again, to live peacefully. (The ones content to live as outlaws still tend to end up int he Gully, qwhich is utterly lawless.)

Defences

MOstly the swampts and the walls around more populated parts fo the city.

Infrastructure

Not much. The bridge; the village near the bridge, which does featuer fairly extensive docks, boating facilities and the like. There are extensive dike systems, especially to the north, which have reclaimed a lot of territory, which tends, now, to be used for keeping cattle, pigs and sheep, and for industries associated with the same - meat, leather and so on. (Which makes some of this quite unpleasant.)

Architecture

There are some nice wood and brick houses around the bridge and in a few of the other small settlements, but much of it is wood, mud and thatch and the like, and all of it practical and cheap.

Geography

This is a lowland, between the hills, much of it fen and marsh. THere are a couple small streams that run through it, though a lot of it is more like a swamp. There are a few higher places - little ridges of rock or alluvial material, usually augmented by landfill and reclaimed land.
