Central Bazaar

Large market located at the top of the hill in the Old City on Wayne Street, near the University, the city hall, and so on. It consists of the central marketplace itself, mostly stalls on the street, and the offices, stores, warehouses and such around it. This is the core of commerce in Waynesburg. This is where most imported items are bought and sold; the offices around the market are where most buisness transpires. Most large companies are headquartered and do their business here. This is where the banks are, the greaty import and export firms, and os on.    he market itself is the most reputable in town. There are many such places in the city, but this is the largest, the safest, the most regulated, the highest class. The government and the guilds keep a closer eye on it, so buyers have recourse if they are swindled, there is reasonable control over the quality of goods, foodstuffs and the like, so there is less chance of being poisoned or getting a disease from the food. This is where the most respectable citizens buy their goods, and the bests merchants sell. And it is where the major wholesalers and importers sell most fo their wares.   The market is subject to the usual hazards of such places: it is crowded, for all the regulation, merchants are not any more honest than they have to be, it is full of thieves, beggars and the like. It is full of tradesmen bringing goods in and out, so full opf traffic, so a dangerous place to just walk around if you are not careful. It is also surrounded by a great many bars and taverns which spill their drunkards into the streets with the attendant difficulties - but the watch and city militia are usually handy around here (as well as security from merchants and their guilds), so it is comparatively safe, even at night, unless you are looking for trouble.

Purpose / Function

This is a large marketplace, surrounded by many businesses.

History

Always the location of the main market in town.   After the Troubles, it was smaller, less central to the city. It became more hostile to outsiders, who tended to keep their business in their owbn neighborhoods. Waynesburg, generally, is less prosperous in the 1610s than the 1590s, and this shows it. It is, of course, still the mercantile center fo the city (indeed, the region), and the bazaar itself is a full service market, and probaly the largest and busiest north of the Kingdom.
