Great Market
The largest market place outside the Old City was located between St. Vincent's Cathedral and Michael's Gate. Located at the intersection of the roads up from the south, the Quarter and the City, it thrived, and continiued to thrive after the Troubles. This was similar to the Central Bazaar, though less organized and regulated, and, being connected to the Quarter and the Gully, much more welcoming to black market and other illicit good. This is less true int he 1600s, as the Legion of Justice made some effort to regulate it, and they could be heavy handed. In the earlier days, this was more of a food market - fishermen and farmers bringing wares to sell. This changed after the wars.
In the 1610s, this remained vital to the city, indeed absorbing many of the functions fo markets that used to exist in the Quarter, as well as in the Gully, around Canal Street and the like. These changes made it less devoted to food, with other shops moving in.
