Maudelyn Blackheart
Maudelyn Blackheart, Rider of Acheron is a Death Knight knight mostly active in Dreibach, and a frequent ally of Hubelon the Broken.
She was born Maudelyn Hart, a human peasant girl who lived in the Ossir Hills during the twenty-second century of the Age of Integrity. She was well-known in the village as a bright and kind-hearted girl, and her neighbors took up a collection to send her to study at a nearby Osirian convent, in the hopes that she could return as a protector, healer, and eventual leader of the village. Maudelyn spent twelve years studying as a Cleric of Osiris, excelling in both martial and healing arts. However, when she returned to her village, it had been razed by the Volksconfedrat mere days before. She found the wreckage of her home and the smoldering remains of her community left behind, with orokhim banners fluttering in the distance. Maudelyn swore on the spot to Set that every Orokh traitor would die, no matter the cost to her.
Maudelyn rode after the Volksconfedrat alone with the goal of slaying as many as possible. She attacked in the middle of the night and killed dozens on the spot. When she was killed in the attempt, she rose in undeath again and continued her rampage. She came close to destroying the entire clan, though enough survivors were able to flee to continue their lineage, and continued onwards to destroy every orokh she saw, not differentiating between orokh and Nuél-orokh communities. The first person to slay her was thereafter known as Alyona Maudlynova, who became one of the most illustrious leaders of the Regiment of the Eastern Front in her era.
Since her first slaying, Maudelyn has periodically appeared to destroy orokhim settlements, regardless of whether their tribe is aligned towards Prometheus or Gruumsh. She is a skilled rider who often appears on a pale or skeletal horse. She is most often depicted alone, attacking at night or at other vulnerable times, and fighting until either she or her targeted settlement is destroyed. Her strong grasp of necromancy allows her to raise the bodies of the dead in the moment she claims their souls, growing the size of her army larger and larger as her onslaught continues.
As death knights go, Maudelyn is exceedingly likely to heed law and order. She seems to respect the terms of the deals she offers with mortals, and does not make agreements she is not willing to abide. Her lawfulness and her hatred of orcs have, at times, led her to be depicted as a sort of antihero in the villages of the Ossir Hills and in the Northern Duchy and Central Duchy as a whole. This attitude is less common surrounding the decades that she appears fighting and riding beside Hubelon the Broken. A few fictional accounts of these two death knights depict them as lovers—either in a doomed relationship during their mortal lives that could only be reunited in undeath, or (more rarely) in a dark romance between death knights forged on the fields of battle.
Maudelyn Blackheart is the Warlock patron of Orpheus. She rescued his Soul from the sword of Hubelon the Broken during a meeting of death knights somewhere on the Liminal Plane. According to some sources, she was influenced by Flipwater at the time; it is unknown how this may have influenced her decisions or the deal.
