Zun Residence

Private Residence   It is only a small brass plaque engraved with the heraldry of House Zun (whose villa is less than a block southeast of the residence) that gives away the fact that this residence belongs to one of Waterdeep's nobility. Fine stonework- unpainted and unaccented-makes up this single¬story house's fagade, with a small marble staircase leading up to the double doors. Tall but thin shuttered windows run along the front of the house. In all, the house is clearly old and somewhat ramshackle, sturdy but in need of some repairs.   Locals know the house belongs to one Hislir Zun, a retired mercenary captain who keeps in fighting trim with morning sword-drill and sparring exercise in the courtyard behind his home. No one really pays any attention to the sound of swordplay around here at those hours.   Layout   The double front doors lead into an entryway, flanked by a fine salon and library, with a short corridor leading to the large but not opulent dining chamber (a room that goes largely unused, given Hislir's preference for dining in his study). Waterclosets are off both the library and the salon.   The northern side of the house features a very large kitchen, with attendant pantry. Servants quarters and the butler's quarters are off this section of the house, as is a back door and a door down into the house's cellars.   The southern wing of the house is given over to Hislir's living, with a large study and bedroom, and a dressing room between them. There is   also a vault off of the study, where the master keeps household coin and other valuables. A corridor runs between study and bedroom, with the batman's quarters off that same corridor. There is a large baths (one of the house's few luxuries) off of the master's bedroom, with a door that allows servants to quickly fill the bath.   The household cellars are at the immediate bottom of the cellar stairs, serving as storage for foodstuffs and the like. A set of double doors off of that room lead to the wine cellar (the keys to which are possessed only by butler and Hislir), and to household storage, where excess furnishings and household goods are stored. Also off the household cellars is the master's storage, where Hislir Zun keeps many of his campaign mementoes and personal goods, and a vault where the master of the house is thought to maintain quite a treasury from his wartime days. There is a panel in the vault of the study above this one where the master may drop truly valuable goods down into this vault, adding a further layer of protection.   Residents & Staff   Hislir Zun (N Tethyrian human veteran), master of house. Hislir Zun is an elder cousin of House Zun, and a retired mercenary captain of almost thirty years. After years of living in tight bivouacs and mercenary camps, he cannot stand the busy life of the House villa, so he purchased this townhouse instead. Hislir is thickly built, with a rough beard and weathered skin. He has the kind of gravity that comes to folk who have commanded soldiers over the span of decades, and he dresses in decent but not opulent clothing these days. He starts his mornings with sword drills first thing, often joined by his batman Revindar; recently, the young Jhansczil lad from next door has started joining him as well.   Revindar (NG Chondathan human veteran), master's batman. Revindar has served as Hislir's batman-a role like a valet, save with additional military skills and duties-for fifteen years now. Hislir invited him to come into retirement with him, and Revindar agreed. He serves Hislir faithfully, helping his commander with dressing and serving him meals, though Hislir's fairly sedate life leaves him a good deal of time to himself. Revindar has begun courting Emeline Vorigast, at the Vorigast residence two doors down; he frequently borrows books of poetry from Master Hislir's library to take to read to her, as she is quite fond of poetry and song.   Sarinda Taeris (LN half-elf warlock of the archfey VGM), cook. This thin wisp of a woman does all of the cooking for the household. Though she works the whole day here, she does not maintain quarters in the house, instead having rooms around the block at Hejlaga's Boarding House (Room 9) where she also does some work cooking communal morning meals for a break in her rent. Sarinda is a silent whirlwind when she's at work, bustling about the kitchen maintaining a half-dozen tasks at the same time.   Though her food is not the sort that normally graces noble tables, Master Hislir prefers her simple, filling food to culinary fripperies. Sarinda often has the evening meal finished early, allowing her the luxury of a pint or two in the taproom at the Cliffwatch Inn before turning in for the day. During the three nights of the new moon, however, Sarinda disappears entirely, whisked away to the Feywild to serve in the strange kitchens of her fey patron, who grants her power in the mortal realm.   Lemianta Arus (N Chondathan human commoner), housekeeper. The sole resident of the house's servant quarters, Lemianta comes from a somewhat troubled background: recommended for the household by Sarinda, less than a year after she was hired, an abusive former husband came looking for her, drunken and belligerent. Hislir Zun promptly demonstrated that his skill with the sword includes the flat side of it, and the ruffian has not been seen here again. Lemianta is deeply grateful to Hislir, and is tremendously loyal to him.   Story Seeds   This Cretin Again? Lemianta's miserable ex¬husband Rruoll shows his ugly face again, and she is worried Hislir will become tired of the uproar around her past. If perhaps some friendly adventuring sorts were to find Rruoll (a veteran) and teach him a lesson, there might be a silver- and-pearl pendant (worth 50gp) in it for them.
